Summary GENESIS MOTOR NORTH AMERICA IS INITIATING SAFETY RECALL 016G TO ADDRESS A CONDITION INVOLVING THE LOW-PRESSURE FUEL PUMP ASSEMBLIES IN CERTAIN MODELYEAR 2022 GENESIS GV70, 2021-2022 GENESIS GV80, AND 2021-2022 GENESIS G80 VEHICLES PRODUCED FOR SALE IN THE U.S. GENESIS IS CONDUCTING THIS ACTION TO ENSURE THE SAFETY OF ITS VEHICLES FOR GENESIS CUSTOMERS.

Safety Risk THE LOW-PRESSURE FUEL PUMP ASSEMBLIES IN THE SUBJECT VEHICLES MAY CONTAIN IMPELLERS THAT DO NOT MEET CURRENT CHARACTERISTICS SPECIFICATIONS, POTENTIALLY LEADING TO DEFORMATION UNDER CERTAIN ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS, SUCH AS HIGH AMBIENT TEMPERATURE. DEFORMATION OF THE IMPELLER COULD CAUSE THE IMPELLER TO INTERFER WITH THE FUEL PUMP HOUSING, RESULTING IN A MECHANICAL RESISTANCE THAT COULD LEAD TO A SHUTDOWN OF THE FUEL PUMP. A SHUTDOWN OF THE FUEL PUMP COULD RESTRICT FUEL FLOW TO THE ENGINE, RESULTING IN A SUDDEN REDUCTION OR LOSS OF MOTIVE POWER, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.

Remedy REMEDY NOT YET AVAILABLE

Here is the remedy for the recall.


Remedy ALL OWNERS OF THE SUBJECT VEHICLES WILL BE NOTIFIED BY FIRST CLASS MAIL WITH INSTRUCTIONS TO BRING THEIR VEHICLES TO A GENESIS RETAILER FOR REPLACEMENT OF THE FUEL PUMP. THIS REMEDY WILL BE OFFERED AT NO COST TO OWNERS FORALL AFFECTED VEHICLES, REGARDLESS OF WHETHER THE AFFECTED VEHICLES ARE STILL COVERED UNDER GENESIS'S NEW VEHICLE LIMITED WARRANTY. ADDITIONALLY, GENESIS WILL PROVIDE OWNERS OF AFFECTED VEHICLES REIMBURSEMENT FOR OUT-OF-POCKET EXPENSES INCURRED TO OBTAIN A REMEDY FOR THE RECALL CONDITION IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE REIMBURSEMENT PLAN SUBMITTED TO NHTSA ON FEBRUARY 24, 2022.

Car Fax sent me an email stating that my dealer can perform the remedy now. I have not confirmed that with the dealer and I have not been notified by Genesis.

For those using their vehicle VIN getting no result - in the 17 alpha-numeric string - character #12 -try a zero ,not the letter "O". I hope this helps.
This recall will highlight(again) the problems of a sparse,declining and very variable standard of Genesis dealers.
At last I found 2 good ones but they are both a 7 hour round trip away from me. No public plans for a Genesis dealer in my area despite it being the perfect demographic for Genesis. There are Hyundai and Kia dealers but they won't perform service/warranty/recall work.

You mention your area, but you don't say where it is? Might be helpful for people looking for a Genesis in your area to warn them off.

Does anyone know if the 2nd row of seats needs to be removed to get access to the low pressure fuel pump on 21 GV80?
