  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Just received a bright orange recall notice from my dealer. Have not yet called to find out what it is for. Anyone else receive one of these?

the notice has no specifics?

Is it a "Recall" or a TSB notice? Either way, it should say what it is about.

No recalls listed on the NHTSA site for the sedan. The latest TSB has an April '09 date and is for a navigation update. Maybe they just want you to "stop by" to try to sell you another car. I have seen dealers do this in the past. Get your attention by putting the words RECALL on the communication!

There area few new TSB's up on hmaservice but nothing that looks especially serious...

Unless it is something serious/dangerous, don't the dealers just wait for you to bring the vehicle in for routine service, at your leisure, and then they take care of all TSB's?

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
No specifics on the notice. Under the "modification section" it says "Call to Verify." Also says things like "extremely important" and other urgent sounding phrases.

If this is just an attempt to sell me something I am going to let them know what I think of their sales tactics.

Are you sure it's from Hyundai? Some unscrupulous advertisers will use "recall notices" or "late payment" notices or "account security breach" notices just to get you to call them so they can pitch their extended warranty policy or what ever.

Yes, the return address and telephone number to call are the dealer's.

It appears that the owner has been recalled (to buy more services or vehicles), not the car. Actually some owners did get a notice from their dealer about side airbag actuators earlier this year.

Spoke to the dealer this morning and she told me that "I don't fall into the category." When I asked what that meant she told me that some vehicles (depending on the production date) are being recalled for a faulty brake light switch.

When I asked why I received the notice, she told me that they sent them to every Genesis owner. All sounds very strange to me.

Scam.

I don't recall anyone on this forum mentioning faulty brake light switch, nor do I recall seeing it in the list of TSB's.

Probably a scam. Dealer is Hyundai of Nanuet. I bought the car there because they had the Genesis in the color combo I wanted. Otherwise they have been bad in every way - sales experience, service experience (I no longer have it serviced there), etc.

I think it is just a dealer being proactive. I just learned that at the end of this month, Volvo is issuing a recall calling for a software update with something to do with the fuel pump. My Volvo dealer has proactively called me to let me know that I can stop by at anytime (no appointment necessary) to have the new software installed. 5 days later, I received the official notice from Volvo. If this was a scam, the dealer would not have told you that your vehicle is not part of the recall notice when you called. Has any aspect of your dealings with your dealer caused you to think that they are just scam artists? I ask this, because my two local Hyundai dealers were so sleazy in their pre-sales practices, that I chose not to even purchase from them. This is just my 2 cents, but, I would not give it a second thought. As Freud once said, "Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar."

There is a new TSB, 09-BE-023 STOP LAMP Z01 DIODE INSPECTION PROCEDURE, but it's not a recall nor tied to any particular production date. I don't know if that's what she was talking about or not, but if it was tied to the production date, they should be able to target any notice correctly. They know your VIN, and VINs are tied to production runs. So they're either lazy or they aren't notifying you for the purpose they're saying they're notifying you.

Now even my selling dealer is resorting to "scam wording" in their advertising.

One dealer that I hate in the Orlando area (The Loud Mouth Dealer) advertises on TV a low price, but then, almost as in passing, speaking very fast, says "bring your trade worth $3000", saying it so fast, most people miss it. Since the "Cash for Clunkers" fiasco of a few weeks ago, where all you heard was $4500 for your clunker, this same dealer advertises in the newspaper a very low price, in HUGE PRINT, then when you read the mouse print, it says "with cash or trade of $4500" and further in the mouse print, it has a "dealer fee of $699 [I think it said $699) and with the Hyundai Loyalty Discount. (he advertised a 2009 Genesis V6 with stage 1 upgrade at $28999 this way, but when you add the $4500 and the $699, you see it is all a scam). I hate that Loud Mouth Dealer.

Well, I spoke with my favorate salesperson at my selling dealer. They do not advertise on TV but they do have large Newspaper ads. They are now doing the same ads as the Loud Mouth Dealer. I asked him why are they stooping so low. His answer was that in order to compete with the Loude Mouth Dealer, he has to do the same type of advertising. (Bummer)

That Loud Mouth Dealer had his Dodge Franchise pulled when Chrysler got the government bailout. A few years ago, I had a Chrysler Convertible and was looking at a good place to get it serviced. I visited the Loud Mouth Dealer and in his Sales area, saw the beautiful desks, padded chairs, and all, that the managers used. I said that the money for that lux has to come from somewhere. The Chrysler dealer just down the street from him, had older desks, regular non padded chairs, etc, so I chose to do business with them, not the Loud Mouth Dealer. Now that the Loud Mouth Dealer had his Dodge Franchise pulled, he is on TV many many times a day, pushing Hyundai and Kia.
Those ads are not cheap, but every comercial break, there he is with his daughter, and his double-talk.
