  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I have a 2012 4.6 and today had the brake reservoir cap replaced at the dealership. The reason for the change is the original DOT 3 fluid was corrosive and was recalled years ago and replaced with DOT 4. The problem was the cap was not replaced and non Hyundai mechanics were often not aware of the change and with the original cap saying use DOT 3 evidently problems came up by using the wrong brake fluid. I had mine done. There's also a sticker page for the owners manual that has the new brake fluid type.

It's a nice shinney new cap, for sure. But, what was wrong with the old one? Just curious....
Post #7 clearly explains it. Originally, DOT3 or DOT4 brake fluid was allowed, and indicated on the car. Now, only DOT4 is allowed, and is so indicated on the new cap.

Ah. So it's improper labeling. I had the brake fluid changed under a recall many moons ago to the DOT4 at the dealer. I could see where the DOT3 on the cap could be an issue for future owners. So next time I go in for an oil change, I'll mention it to the dealer. No need to worry about it otherwise, then. And *that* is what I was trying to get at. I do see where Curt laid that out, and I missed that.
