  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Got a call from my dealer telling me they need to do a recall. Could not give me specifics however told me it needed to be reprogrammed. Anybody know what this recall is for? Have an appointment on Tuesday for 1st oil change and the recall.

I cant find anything on a recall it must be a Tsb. Mac

I searched everywhere also and nada. I would be surprised if they told me I needed to do a TSB but will find out shortly and get back to all.

All recalls are TSB's, but not all TSB's are recalls. At least in the US, the term recall has a specific meaning and usually relates to a safety issue and all owners are notified by mail by Hyundai Motor America.

In the past, Hyundai Motor America has had some TSB's that must be applied by the dealer for any car in their lot, or any customer car brought in for service for any other reason, but customers were not notified of the TSB.

I just checked the NHTSA website and no recalls/TSB's are listed for the 2015 Genesis.

Exactly.

That being said, the idiots at my dealership called to tell me about a recall on my car and I needed to cal to make an appointment as mentioned above. (I have this on my answering machine) It is near by so I went to get first hand info. Turns out there is no recall and they asked me if i had any issues with the XM on my radio to which I replied no. She then said there is no need to bring in your car since this is only applicable to those with issues. There is a TSB (remember, this is only to be done IF the customer complains about problems) on the radio XM portion however since mine works well there is no reason to bring your car in. Talk about being lost.

SORRY FALSE ALARM, NO RECALL

When I subscribed to the hyundai tech site they did list a campaign to reflash 2015 navigation unit/headunit. So we have recalls,Tsb's, and campaigns.

Does it say what the reflash is intended to fix?

I explained campaigns in my post above (but I did not use the term "campaign"):

"In the past, Hyundai Motor America has had some TSB's that must be applied by the dealer for any car in their lot, or any customer car brought in for service for any other reason, but customers were not notified of the TSB."

The original TSB for transmission fluid change from DOT-3 to DOT-4 on early Genesis models was a campaign in the USA. It was later escalated to a recall, so that anyone who had not already had it done (for applicable VIN's) got a notice in the mail for a recall. In the TSB PDF document I have for this, it specifically says "SERVICE CAMPAIGN."

There was also a TSB "AIRBAG CONTROL UNIT UPDATE - SERVICE CAMPAIGN" for the early Genesis airbags, that was not a recall:

IMPORTANT: DEALERS MUST PERFORM THIS CAMPAIGN ON ALL AFFECTED VEHICLES PRIOR TO CUSTOMER RETAIL DELIVERY AND WHENEVER AN AFFECTED VEHICLE IS IN THE SHOP FOR ANY MAINTENANCE OR REPAIR.

IMPORTANT: WHEN A VEHICLE ARRIVES AT THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT, ACCESS HYUNDAI MOTOR AMERICA'S "WARRANTY VEHICLE INFORMATION" SCREEN VIA WEBDCS TO IDENTIFY OPEN CAMPAIGNS.

But a TSB can be something not even related to a problem, such as a publication of factory paint codes of the Original Genesis models that was not found in the original documentation.

You meant to say BRAKE FLUID RECALL, not transmission fluid.

The tsb is about reprogramming the module associated with blue link. To the best understanding I got from service writer. They had the car for 5 hours. I was given a 2015 sonata limited for the day nc. Not a bad car/ lots of the buttons shared with the genesis.

Going in on Tuesday for a software update. Anyone know what its for? Will find out when I'm there otherwise.

Like I said, it is a TSB IF you are having issues with your XM radio. Otherwise it's a waste of your time according to my dealer. And here is the really stupid part, the dealers do not even have the update yet which is what my dealer told me.

I can't be sure, gentlemen, but depending on your build date this may be the update for SiriusXM NavTaffic/TravelLink. This feature was mistakenly left out of early build units, which we only caught after they began arriving. An update was subsequently sent out to add this feature back into cars which didn't get it. This is the function which provides traffic data through your navigation system, as well as TravelLink functions like weather and stock data.

Are you saying that the weather, stock and traffic info will be available on the Canadian cars as a result of either this or another update coming soon? It would be great to see some of these little extra features show up here.

Those XM data packages are already available. All cars built after mid-July have it, and a retroactive update is being made available for those who don't.
