  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Would appreciate recommendations or thoughts about using this product in my 2016 3.8 ultimate.
How much how often etc.

Hyundai Fuel Injector Cleaner sold in the USA in the parts department is the same as Chevron Fuel Injector Cleaner with Techron (both products contain Techron, a trademarked product made by Chevron). If you look in the maintenance section of your owners manual, it probably says something about how often to use it.

There is some controversy as to whether it helps much with a GDI (Gasoline Direct Injection) engine, since the gas does not spray on the valves to clean off the carbon buildup, but it won't hurt. The best place to get it is at Costco, when they have it on sale about twice per year.

I think the last time I checked the maintenance schedule listed on my dealer's website (which I believe pulls from Hyundai) it stated that you don't need to use it if you already use top-tier fuel. I copy/pasted a bit below. I haven't checked the manual, which the maintenance schedule on the dealer website says to do.

7,500 Mile
Factory Required $95.62
Replace Engine Oil and Filter
Tire Rotation
Add Fuel Additive (recommended only if TOP TIER Detergent Gasoline is not available. See owner's manual for details.)
Inspect Air Cleaner Filter
Inspect Vacuum Hose

Speaking of top tier fuels there's so much controversy on which fuels are best I've been using Sams Club gas for years and never had a problem,no doubt some would gasp!
What would be considered a top tier fuel in the western United States ?
Lastly would use of Techron simply to clean the injectors be a worth while endeavor?

Owner's Manual recommends every 15,000 miles.

Chevron recommends after every oil change.

You can google TopTier and find out which brands qualify. It has to do mostly with what kind of additives are in the gas to keep engines clean.

The cost of one bottle of Fuel Injector Cleaner with Techron, once or twice per year, is pretty low, and it won't hurt anything and might help. It's the only fuel additive authorized by Hyundai.

Techron cleans everything a bit. It does clean GDI injectors. I personally use the Costco stuff, which is the watered-down formulation. I buy it on sale and use it every fill-up. Houston, like any other big-city, has to use "winter-gas" formulation. Houston does not need the "winter gas" BS, because it does not get cold here. Every Mazda and VW I have owned absolutely hated it, which is what started me on Techron a long time ago. I could tell a difference within two tanks. It saved me an engine de-carbon tear down on a VW a few decades ago (the de-carbon turned into a recall later). The stuff works. The full strength Techron formulation is much pricier than the Costco stuff and is only meant for very occasional use. Also, Costco currently sells gas that is not only Top Tier, but is has 4 - 5 times the level of "detergents" that is minimally required by the government.

Those little techron bottles come in at least 3 sizes depending on when and where you get them

Also, I ordered a six pack of 20 oz bottles on amazon and received 12 oz bottles.

Buyer beware.

Chevron does make a stronger formulation, but it is easy to just pour the Fuel Injector version in half a tank of gas, instead of a full tank.

The service mgr at the dealership I bought my Genesis from gave me some of the Hyundai stuff and said it's a good idea with these GDI engines to use a bottle every 7500 miles or so.

As you would fully expect from a dealer.

Did it say Techron on the back of the bottle? That means it was bottled for Hyundai by Chevron. Techron is a trademark of Chevron. The Chevron bottle and Hyundai bottle are identical, except for the stick-on labels.

Took me to the parts dept and gave me a 20 oz. bottle. Got Hyundai and Techron on it
