  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

My 2010 4.6L w/Tech package has a redline of ~6700 RPM, however, even using "manual" shift, it never goes past ~6100-6200 RPM !!! What's the deal?

Surely there are 4.6L Gennys out there and folks have tried to redline them.... help me, please.

Are you about to get to redline or does your also shift in the lower 6000rpm range?

the manual mode in the automatic transmission still sfifts when the computer tells it too. the only good thing manual mode does is hold the gear you want to be in. It will not go to redline.

I found out that it will stiff shift on it's own, but, why does the car not go to redline? I mean over 500 RPM short of redline is a good bit.

Does NO ONE get theirs' to redline?

My observations from my 2009 4.6:

1. The transmission will shift on its own even in manual mode.
2. Regardless of whether the car is in D or M, it shifts at the same RPM and with the same firmness (which is to say not very firm) when going wide open thottle.
3. The shift points seem to be around 6200-6400 RPM tops, which is crap considering this engine is supposed to make its peak 375hp at 6500 rpm.

So basically at least for the early Tau V8, the engine never truly makes peak power connected to the ZF transmission. Maybe Hyundai got their act together for the later years, but the first year has a lot of wasted potential in that drivetrain. I know this ZF transmission in the V8 is capable of much quicker shifts (BMWs, etc.) but Hyundai didn't seem interested in taking advantage of that via a sport mode or alternate shift logic when going wide open throttle. Their primary goal was definitely comfort over sport when engineering this car.

pscmj84, thanks for your input. Dunno why Hyundai did this to this car.... it really sux.... glad you get to 6400 rpm.... mine usually shifts ~6100 maybe 6200..... hard to tell that little bit of difference.

It is 6400 at the absolute most. I found the video below on Youtube, and it might touch 6300-6400 rpm at the top of second gear. Either way, still disappointing.
