  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Regular vs Premium gas

For years I have tried Premium Vs. Regular gas and never felt a difference.... However when using gas with no ALCOHOL I improved gas mileage by 10-15 %
Unless your car calls for Premium gas your just wasting money

The price difference between regular and 91 is literally $0.10/gallon. 16 gallon tank X $0.10 = $1.60. Why is this even a discussion? Spend the extra $1.60 or sell your car and buy a Prius.

Who pissed in your cornflakes? Because people are curious. And because it's their money. Until you start contributing to their checking account...my guess is they'll spend it how they see fit.

HAHA, Premium around here is 93 octane so it is like $.55 more per gallon.

Here in Houston, first-tier premium is almost a guarantee of no alcohol. There is not much difference in price, and in general, has more and better additives to maintain the fuel system. I use it for that reason.

City driving masks any mileage gains from using premium. I don't have enough experience with my Genesis to say, but my 2006 Sonata V6 made about 1.5--2 mpg more on highway driving with premium.

In my part of east Texas, premium 91 is 35-45 cents higher (about +20%) per gallon vs 87 octane.

I tried a tank full of 91 once so far and saw the same gas mileage that I've gotten with 87 with no noticeable change in the way it ran.

I am pretty certain that DFI on both of the Genesis engines will negate any advantage of mileage with premium in most driving. But performance is probably noticeable from the figure given by Hyundai on the V8. My Sonata's predilection for premium was noted in car reviews and it was fairly dramatic in terms of performance and mileage. I still have that mindset though it is no longer valid.

I burn strictly Mobil Super Unleaded gas. I get on average 20-21 mpg back & forth to work (mixed city/highway driving). I did a test after I purchased my car and found the additional cost for Premium fuel over regular was penny's. I recommend Premium fuel.

Here is a link to my study incase you wanted to sift through it:

For me, the only way to get gas with no alcohol is to go premium.
