  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hi all,
I am shopping for a new car. I love everything I've seen about the 2022 G70 except one thing, reliability. The Car and Driver long term test car had to have a turbo and transmission replaced and Consumer Reports gives it a less than average. I know it has a 10 year warranty but breaking down all the time is not good. I went through that before with my 1989 Taures SHO. I drove a M340i yesterday and was stunned by its power but by the time I get some of the options the G70 has, it's 12K more expensive with only a 4 year warranty. Please help me out by letting me know if you have had reliability issue with your G70.
Thanks!

I don't have a G70 but I have had five Hyundai/Genesis cars since 2006 and my next one will be too. One reason is reliability. I find them far superior in quality than other brands I've owned. A couple of then have not had a single problem, none had engine or trans problems.

No problem here for a '19 G70.
Here is/was a thread for the accumulated issues in the first year of posters:

Mostly minor, some nuisance and a few of significance though nothing widespread.

I don’t have a G70, so no personal experience there. But my G90 has been very reliable. My impression from this forum is that the majority of complaints are about how Genesis treats people pre- and post-sale, though I’ve had no issues.

BTW, the 2022 G70 is a refresh that’s already available in S. Korea as a 2021. It’ll be available in the U.S. this summer.

I think you would see quite a bit of major issues here on this forum IMO. ..

This vid below , I thought was pretty good regarding publications such as Consumer Reports.

I'm confused. How could they have done a long term test on a car that's not available yet (2022)?
I just read the C&D long term test on the 2019 G70, and they had no issues or failures or unscheduled service visits.

You were probably referring to the Motor Trend review. It was a 2019 model, and they did have a transmission issue. They didn't have to replace a turbo however, just attach a hose to the turbo that had come loose. Big difference.
Other than having to put on better brake pads (which is well documented), my G70 has had zero issues in 16k miles.

The M340i (newer G20 chassis) is compelling, but at least $12k more than the G70 when similarly optioned. You do get more back seat room, a larger trunk and a bit more power, but the steering and ride still get lousy reviews. I came from a 2014 (F30 chassis) 335ix and like the G70 much better.

My 2019 G70 has been rock-solid for going on 2 years now; it's easily the best car I've ever owned.

Out of curiosity, I just went through the "build your own" process on the BMW site, and I'm not sure it's even possible to configure the M340i with all the options I got on my G70. Granted, mine's loaded (Sport, Prestige, and Elite packages), but I only paid a shade over $52K for it.

I see that BMW has the same 3-year free maintenance as Genesis, but the Genesis service valet is a perk that I don't think BMW even offers (make a service appointment on your phone, and on the day of service, they send a guy over with a loaner to pick up your car, and when it's ready, they send the guy to wherever you are to drop your car off to you and bring the loaner back to the dealer. Priceless.).

BTW: have you driven a G70 (with the 3.3t) to compare it to the M340i? Looking at the numbers for the BMW, it's got a dozen HP over the G70 with the 3.3t, and it claims to be a couple of tenths faster from 0 - 60, but is that really worth an extra 12K? And if you're planning on keeping the car for more than a few years (or you do a fair amount of driving), the difference between a 4 year/50K warranty and a 5 year/100K warranty could be significant.
