  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Remote Start in the Cold

Are you saying you added an aftermarket remote starter to a GV80? What brand? what model
No, to my G80. Should be able to do it you yours too though. I have a CompuStar.

There as a thread here about remote starters and what others have.

Did a search "remote starters" it didn't turn up anything related to a 2021 GV80

FYI, I have never had an issue with my remote start either from my key fob or from the app. I say this to let you know that for whatever reason yours does not work, they should be able to fix it. So don't give up.

That would depends on the reason. Many of my failures was weak or no cell signal. They can't fix that.

Has anyone found a way to lengthen distance on key fob remote? 32 feet is essentially worthless? Most aftermarket remotes are good for around a thousand feet and you don't have to wait for a app to start your car. The Genesis app is "busy" most of the time. Anyone have aftermarket remote installed?

Pressing the two buttons to start as you last described is the normal and proper procedure to start the GV80. That’s been my experience with other cars in the past also. Here is the GV80 manual description how to do it:
“Press the door lock button on the smart key within 32 feet (10m) from the vehicle. 2. Press the Remote Start button for more than 2 seconds within 4 seconds after pressing the door lock button.”
That's a logical software feature to ensure that the car isn't remotely started if unlocked in a public setting for some reason.

10 minutes does not make the seats, wheel or cabin lukewarm. I traded a 2020 Grand Cherokee for my GV70. The remote start on that car was amazing, it timed out at 15 minutes. When you sat inside, everything was toasty, in the front and rear window.

If I remember correctly, many months ago, someone was complaining their GV80 heater was not heating the cabin to a comfortable temperature on cold days (-15C or colder) or around 0 F. Yesterday I was driving around my city and temp was -17C, in 20 minutes my GV80 cabin was still cool, I had the HVAC set on auto and temp set at maximum. I shut the vehicle off and came back 5 minutes later, I instantly noticed my heater was putting out far more heat and the vehicle heated to a comfortable level in a couple of minutes.
I also noticed when I switched to defrost setting there was not enough heat to keep my windshield from freezing up. On defrost setting it was only blowing cool air no matter what setting.
If I remember right, last winter it took a long time to heat the interior to a comfortable level on cold days.

Anyone else experiencing the same situation with their GV80. (2021 GV80 3.5T Prestige)
I have a similar issue. Cold air on idle, even with the car fully warmed up. When I hit the gas I get heat. Any update on this from your end?

The car only stays running for 10 minutes. Really cannot heat the car in 10 minutes. The heated steering wheel and seats barely warm up after 10 minutes. Past experience, need a minimum of 15 minutes run time.

Hm. It can happen for me even after an hour of driving the car though. I will say though after that amount of time the heat gets cold faster (if that makes sense). I just posted this thread if you want to check my symptoms. No heat at idle 2021 G90 Thanks for the reply!

Warms up quickly once you drive though.

The ten minutes is probably a compromise between local laws and environmental people.

It definitely does warm up once you start driving, but it is nicer to get into a warm car! Totally agree about the idle laws, makes sense.

Sorry, I missed the original thread. Definitely a frustrating issue you have.

The heater, seats and steering wheel in my gv80 all work great. The seats get really toasty as does the wheel. Heater gets toasty after maybe 10 minutes...

They replaced the passenger side heater core and the entire rear seat heater/air conditioner and flushed the engine apparently the system was contaminated in production I haven't really driven it got it back at 6pm yesterday and am out of town today so can't really tell how much of a difference it has made I'll post next week once I've had a chance to drive it

Why do you guys need the heat anyway? Oh that's right, you don't live in Florida.😁

Update on heater blowing cold air at idle.
As I said they replaced passenger side heater core as well as the rear seat heating system flushed the entire colling system and replaced the coolant.
I've driven the car for 5 days and yes this did solve the problem. it's only taken a year.
Apparently the coolant system was contaminated during production.

Glad you got it working. I never had an issue, but I am amazed to learn that they have separate heating cores. Why do they not have seperate fans?

I think there are more like mine out there but if you live in a moderate climate you probably would never notice it. We can get too 40 below and frequently see 20 below for the highs of the day. Believe me you will soon discover the cold air on the passenger side at 20 below F.

Well, to be honest, I don't use the heat much. But the AC is going year round.
