  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Remote Start?

Well there are several packages - the one called Essentials runs about 15 bucks a month - ofcourse it does more than remote start - you can google the rest. But the remote start is sent through a cell tower and takes about a min for the car to actually start. They have an app for the iPhone for it and that's how I start it remotely. Like I said, it comes at a price - but it can be done if your Genesis is equipped with BlueLink

I have seen a two-way Viper remote start offered as a dealer add-on on 2012 Genesis models at Morrie's 394 Hyundai in Minneapolis. That tells me that at least one dealer has figured out how to install a high-quality, feature-rich aftermarket remote start and stand behind the installation. Can't say that about two German brands.

Hmmm so if my 2011 4.6 has the tech package does that mean i have bluelink? And i guess i would have to ask local hyundai dealer about this option(viper) one

I think bluelink only comes on the 2013 Genesis - my bad.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
Bluelink is only available on 2013 models

Damn! Figures lol

I just tried my remote start today for the first time via the Blue Link app. (2013 3.8, 2 weeks old, still so young its pooping yellow)

Couldn't figure out why anyone would use remote start, except to impress the kids, but now reading your post, it makes sense. Guess in Northern California the garage temperature is rarely cold enough to cause a stir.

The thing I really love is the ability to remote lock the car with the app. Since getting the car 2 weeks ago, I've forgotten to lock it at least 5 times. My former car used to auto lock after a few mins, so I got out of the habit.

Now, at least I have a back up option for locking up when I forget

So glad to have this car. Aside from a handful of very minor feature annoyances, I'm head over heels in love.

Amen sir!

I am going to be calling around today to try to find an aftermarket remote start for my 2011 Equus. I had also owned the first year Genesis (previous to owning my 2011 Dodge Charger), and learned very quickly that adding remote start was going to be a challenge, and an expensive one at that.

Interesting that Minneapolis was mentioned, that would be my area. A few years ago, when I did check into a remote start for my Genesis, the dealership in Minneapolis did apparently have a place that could install them (different dealership than Morries).

So, back to digging around. Local to me, the 'main' aftermarket installer said that he did not think he could do it (for the Equus) in that he did not see any parts for it, that doesn't surprise me though. Especially since I probably own the one and only Equus in a 50 mile radius.

I think I am only going to try this at an aftermarket installer that has actually installed one in an Equus before. I will be calling dealerships in the Minneapolis area to find out if they have had it done for customers.

It is becoming summer here, so at least I have a few months (weeks?) before the snow falls again.

Thanks for the replies.

BTW - I do think the Equus is a very nice car, and it was a joy to drive it to work this morning, lol, I almost think it looks best when its dark and rainy out, looks totally lux.

Quick update, I did find a Equus dealer in Minneapolis who confirms that they have a shop that has indeed installed a remote start into an Equus. Apparently the shop prefers the Viper one button model, I don't know exactly which one. Total install quoted at $430. Now of course that is through the dealer, but I could get them to pick up my car for me, and get it all done in one shot. Thanks again for all the comments.

As noted 2014 remote starts, locks, lights, etc. using the smartphone blue link app.

Regarding aftermarket remote starts, I've always been told that I will have to lose a keyfob in order for it to work. Also, I don't like the idea of carrying an additional remote to start my vehicle.

I will say that I found this video long ago, but I have yet to find an installer that is willing to do this, using the OEM keyfob(or can figure out)

Said he used a Python 1401 with EVO-bypass.

I was also shocked to find out my Genesis did not have this feature... I simply assumed that it did.. Like I assumed that I could pop my trunk from inside the car.

This feature comes on car that are way less expensive...

I agree that in a cold climate it is very nice....
I had a 2009 genesis 4.6 and it had remote start. The dealer nor anyone else knew of it. I had the factory remote and if you pressed the lock button on the fob 3 times or the lock button on outside of door 3 times it would remote start for 15 minutes. Crappy part is that only way to get in vehicle with remote start active was to push button on outside of trunk or use the key in door. Both of which would kill the remote start then have to start vehicle like normal with push start then drive it. Sometimes had to press the lock button on key fob 5 times to start. Wrecked it and got a 14 equus ultimate recently only to find out no remote start at all other than bluelink in which radio won't connect and paid for service through hyundai.. now talking about needing a new 1400 head unit to use it....

Blue link sounds like the way to go since I can do that with my Chevy through on star
