  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Blue link, effective Jan. 1, 2023. Shut off vehicles who were equipped with 2g and 3 g technology and now we have no safety features, no ability to use remote functions. Not to mention no upgrades available for my 2016 Genesis. My question is why didn’t Hyundai Genesis plan for an upgrade rather than leaving car owners without? I only have 33,000 miles on my Genesis and had no intention of selling it off. So bottom line is I would like an answer as to why we were left behind? And by doing this, did Hyundai Genesis really think owners would consider another vehicle from Hyundai or Genesis?

Please explain how you think that the lack of connected services has removed ABS, stability control, air bags, AEB, lane keep assist, and other safety features?

The only "safety" features that I am aware of losing are the SOS button and the automatic crash notification. For the SOS button, I have my phone and can even get it to call 911 with just my voice. On the automatic crash notification, how many crashes are so bad that I am unable to call 911, but still minor enough that car's transponder still has a working connection to the battery?

If you take the time to search here you will see hundreds of posts on the same subject. When you head unit was designed it was not a consideration. Verizon did the shutdown.

Received correspondence from Blue link, I lost remote capabilities, security features such as ACN, SOS, road side assistance, stolen vehicle tracking. By Bluelink account was deactivated , taking away any ability to handle remote access, no start, locking door, no stopping car, nothing. For some reason this has effected my ability to open my trunk using the key fob.

No, it hasn't. It didn't for me, no one else has indicated such a problem, and it didn't for you either. You have some other coincidental issue with your trunk/remote. You do know that you have to press and hold the trunk button on the remote until the lights flash and the trunk opens (or starts to open)...

I want an answer as to why were NO uprades considered, why were we left without, I paid just as much if not more than anyone else. I don’t want excuses, I get a lot of sorrys from BlueLink people but no real answers. I suggest that Hyundai give us owners our money back.

Pretty simple. As designed the modem is integrated in the head unit and no simple solution. You can build a new $3500 head unit but that is not practical. Just like your 8088 computer, there is a limit to what can be done to upgrade.

Not just Genesis, it is many other car makers too. Your 2016 head unit was probably designed about 2011 and 5G was not available and LTE was in infancy. Genesis suppliers designed what was the latest at the time but technology moves fast. Upgraded my 8088 and got a 386SX but still can't run Windows 10.

Not just Genesis. I had a 2018 Audi that lost it as well. My wifes 2017 bmw needed a software update. With her car, for the 2017 model, it depended on when the car was built weather or not you could get the upgrade. Hers was built a month after the cutoff.
I think this is a problem for most of the carmakers.

I read that Verizon is sending free phones to 3G customers. Maybe they will send us new cars to keep us using Verizon.

In my country Blue Link is not available for my 2020 G80 .

I could be wrong but if I remember correctly I can do all the aforementioned function without any problems. I'll check it again, just to make sure.

no offense, but you are talking about a 7 year old car using even older tech.

you might be one of the only people ive ever met that expects nearly a decade old tech to work, or at the time, be designed with something that may or may not happen 10 years down the road.

The car phone in my BMW 850ci stopped working, who do I bitch to? lol...

Seriously, don't take into consideration anything that requires a mobile app when purchasing a car. Anything that requires a network connection of some kind will eventually stop working. Doesn't matter if it's a car, connected fridge, game console or even your cell phone... I have a number of vintage high end Nokia dumb phones (8890 and 8800) that I would love to use once in a while but they just don't work anymore. They're too old
