If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Just about to take delivery of new 2015 Genesis and dealer is insisting that "all cars go out with our dealer badge" on rear. While this is only a small circle emblem, i really prefer a cleaner look. Dealer is already going to swap rear H to winged badge as part of original deal.

How hard will it be to remove this chrome circle metal dealer badge/emblem post purchase?

Thanks!

It's always the first thing I do to a new car, and have never had a problem. The badges haven't been on long, and most just peel off readily. Others sometimes require a hair dryer to heat up the glue first. Metal badges, chromed plastic, or simple decals or appliques; no matter (as long as they didn't drill holes - never encountered that).

Probably same procedure as removing the H badge as described in many threads on this site. However, this assumes they used 3M double-sided tape specially designed for emblems. If they used some kind of permanent glue, then you will have to rethink that.

Next time, make an amendment to the sales contract that says no dealer emblem, and initial it, and make the sales manager initial it. If they refuse, walk out the door.

+1. That is exactly what I do when purchasing a car for me or my wife. I will let them put their dealer sponsored license plate frame on, but that also comes off pretty quickly.

These cars are not cheap, and if they want me to advertise their dealership, then pay me a monthly fee.

That said, I would guess they would use cheap double sided tape which is removable. I used a hair dryer to help remove the Hyundai rear emblem.

I've never had a dealer tell me they wouldn't remove their badge/plate frame before I take ownership. That's quite odd (IMO).

It should be pretty easy to remove though.

You could tell them you will need to charge them an advertising fee of $XXX/month if they insist on putting their badge on the car.

I'd suggest having a quick word with the sales manager about removing the dealer emblem -- they want you to have a good experience and possibly refer some customers, if they are petty and refuse your reasonable request you are unlikely to do that. Again, I would escalate the request a bit - it is completely reasonable.

When ever I see a dealer emblem on a car (not very common these days) I cross that dealer off from my list of where I will by my next car.

Oddly, they did not brand my Genesis but pretty much every car I've owned, I peeled it off easily and only my '99 Expedition required a heat gun. I did keep a license plate from one dealer as it was cool looking.

Funny story: back in '92 I took my CRX in for service but went to a different dealership. While I was waiting, the service manager came and told me my car was almost ready and asked if I had a comfortable visit (was a really nice dealership). He then proceeds to ask if he could put the dealer's brand on my car. I told them no of course but that was some left-field stuff.

Every deal I ever signed I requested to not have a dealer emblem put on. If they are going to swap out the H for the wings they can remove their badge if it was already installed. Good luck with your new Genny!!!

I always specify no dealership stickers affixed on my vehicle prior to taking delivery. I've never had any problems with dealership compliance with that. I would take my business elsewhere if that was a request the dealership did not want to fulfill.

I wanted to "clean up" the trunk lid of the Ghost so the first thing to go was the dealer emblem. All it took was a few minutes warming with a hair dryer then a thin piece of plastic to get under an edge and the emblem easily pealed off. Then some WD40 to remove any sticky residue. No trace of the emblem was left.
