  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I purchased the Genesis Wing caps for the stock 17" wheels. What is the best way to remove the old caps without damaging the wheel or the old caps?

Mark,

The best way I have found to remove those type of caps (the ones that cover just the hub and not the lugs) is to pull the wheel off and take the back end (handle) of a screwdriver and give it a decent whack from the inside of the wheel, almost like you are stabbing the back of the center cap with the handle of the screwdriver. If you have an old leaf-spring bushing or something similar, you may be able to stick that into the back side of the center cap and hit that with a mallet to pop out the cap. Make sure you either catch the cap or put something soft for it to land on so you don't scratch it up.

Hope that helps. I have never done this with the actual Genesis caps, but it has worked well on several other wheels (MK3 Supra, Volvo wagon, etc...).

I was afraid that the answer was to take the wheels off. Looks like I may just have to wait until I need new tires, or at least tire rotation. I am not particularly inclined to remove my wheels at this time.
