  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

What is the best way to extend the XM subscription? we get three months free. We are getting calls from them to renew before it expires. I have also been told that we could get a better rate if we actually let it lapse.

Apparently if you call and threaten to cancel, they'll offer you a better deal, you should be able to get 1yr for under $100.

I only got 1 month free, apparently the dealer activated the subscription as soon as they got the car in inventory. I haven't decided if I want to try calling XM to get my two months or not. The sound quality on their music stinks, I wouldn't listen to it even if it were free forever. The traffic info is kinda nice, but overpriced at $8/month and I'm not sure if they offer discounts on that. If it was cheaper I might consider it though.

Sorry to hear about your sound quality. We love it, we never have used the FM radio. We have one in my Mazda5 and one in the house. The Sonata that was traded had one too. Crank up those seventeen speakers and you feel as though were in a concert hall. On long trips there is no fading and no commercials. After spending 40 grand on the car we won't pinch pennys.

If that's how you feel, perhaps you'd like to experience those 17 speakers in true surround sound? Once you experience the pleasures of DVD-A (or even DVD-V) you'll let your XM lapse for sure. See this thread:

The question is the best way to extend the subscription.

Once you decide or find out how much you will pay, I do NOT advise you to give them your Credit Card Number (they say they will give you an extra month [13 months total] free), or even write them a check. Serious/XM will renew you automaticly after your subscription period has expired, as they have your Credit Card Number and/or your Checking Account Number.

What I did was to request a paper bill. I then purchased a Money Order, made copies of the MO and the bill, and sent that in. (Matter of fact, I sent it in "Return Recept Requested", just to keep them honest).

There were articles in newspapers and TV in New York State on how the NY Attorney General, Andrew Cuomo, was suing Serious/XM for their billing practices.

I agree.
OP, listen to what ctrcbob says and never give them your CC number.
As they were recording the phone call when I renewed my subscription, I specifically said that it'll be a "one time payment" and that there will be no automatic renewal.
Of course they started charging me after the 1 year contract, so I canceled my service.

XM/Sirius is known for their bloodsucking billing practices.
Very poor service when it comes to billing.

Never again for me.

I've been a Sirius subscriber for a very long time. I can honestly say I haven't listened to terrestrial radio in quite some time. In another thread I mentioned I just bought a 1998 F150 that obviously doesn't have SiriusXM. I had to listen to regular radio and I wanted to shoot myself.... How many car and basement commercials can you listen to in 1hrs time?

The sound quality isn't the best, but it sure isn't horrible! You can not beat the content that SiriusXM provides. No commercials is the #1 reason why I have it. Also, if you like talk radio they have original content that Kills the dolts on regular radio.

I just renewed for the Genesis. I called them up and told them I wanted the $77 deal. The first rep told me they couldn't do it. Then I called back like an hour later and got someone else that asked me where I heard about the $77 deal. I just lied and told them I got an email from XM telling me about the deal. She said OK and signed me up.

It probably depends somewhat on what type of music you listen to. Rock and metal don't compress well, and the low bitrate they use makes this type of music sound awful; I find XM to be worse than HD radio or even analog FM for this type of music. (Lame-encoded MP3 via USB sounds better than all of them, though). The programming options for rock and metal also leave a bit to be desired, IMHO.

I agree with you about the commercials on regular radio, and if I listened to talk radio in the car I'd probably get it via satellite. But since I prefer music and have a large CD collection, USB stick is the way to go for me (plus the occasional DVD-A).

Got a message from XMRadio when I renewed my subscription...

Your radio is also capable of:
NavWeather ,
XMWX Marine ,
XMWX Aviator ,
XMWX Ground

is this true? Never seen this on any menu on the Genesis.
