Anyone had to replace the adhesive used to attach the wiper sensor to the windshield? Mine was held in place via a clear piece of adhesive--is this OEM; I bought the car used?

My wiper sensor has been resting on the rear view mirror. It basically happened at the end of summer/early fall and there were some extremely hot days, and I would come back to the car, and the wiper sensor was resting on the rear view mirror and I would push it back in place (rinse and repeat a few times and then it tore). In trying to fix the issue, I purchased something off of Amazon that I thought would work, however it doesn't stick, and it's thicker than desired.

Hopefully someone here can guide me in the right direction, otherwise I guess I'll just have to take it to the dealership.

I had the same problem. Several months after my windshield was replaced the rain sensor assembly fell away from the windshield.
I do not recommend replacing the pad, its kind of tricky, and working in on the sensor in a confine area doe not much, second if it not set windshield correctly the pad is useless.
In my case I replace the rain sensor lens it came with the adhesive pad attach. I am not sure which lens you have but you can use the site below and match your lens up to the one from this site below.

Appreciate the link. It's definitely something to try, I'll contact a local car customization shop that does all kinds of A/V and sensor installation and fabrication on vehicles. They should definitely be able to take care of me quickly.

Just an update to this issue, that I hopefully have finally fixed. The local custom shop wouldn't touch my car until I got a new sensor, and told me to go to the dealership. The parts guy at the dealership suggested that I use an adhesive spray instead of buying a new sensor. I called Safelite and over the phone was told they could take care of mounting it properly, but upon visiting in person, they told me they would have to replace the windshield at a cost of $366 (after $30 off coupon). NO THANK YOU, SIR!!! So this has been quite the adventure for me in trying to resolve the problem. I never trust one answer and always want at least 3 options, before settling on something final.

At one point I had ordered a rectangular clear plastic piece from Amazon, but it was much thicker than the original and did not include any kind of adhesive, so I was very weary of purchasing something online for rain sensor mounting. However, I gave it one last shot and ordered double sided clear adhesive tape from Amazon: Atack Double-Sided Acrylic Mounting Tape Removable, Clear, 2-inch x 300-Inch, Waterproof Indoor and Exterior Double Sides Brick Mounting Tape. This tape roll looks like it is used by these eBay sellers for these little slivers of custom adhesive tape they sell for cars for $9 to $11 bucks. Lastly, I went to my local Lowes and purchased some stuff called E6000 2-fl oz Bonding Clear Multipurpose Adhesive as a backup plan. Yes, I was NOT going to fail this time!!!!

The cover from the rain sensor had been removed previously, so I only had to disconnect the rain sensor wire before removing it. I put on a pair of disposable gloves prior to cleaning the lens surface with rubbing alcohol and also cleaned the windshield sensor window area. I then applied one side of the tape to the sensor and trimmed it to fit properly, and smoothed it out as best as possible to remove any air bubbles. I then removed the red covering for the tape from the other side, lined it up with the windshield rectangular area and pressed firmly and held in place until the wipers started moving.

I then got a cup of water and poured lightly on the rain sensor target area and to my surprise it worked, I continued to pour more in hopes I could simulate a torrential downpour and the wipers worked at their fastest setting. At this point, I'm at least feeling better about this over my other options, but I cannot say that this is a 100% solution, as I have to see how the tape holds up in the coming days/weeks, but it is definitely stickier than the stuff that was on there originally.

Just purchased a 2nd Genesis (2010 V6) as a winter beater and found that the windshield rain sensor is not working. When I took the cover off, the entire sensor came off the windshield but left some kind of blackish plastic shield attached on the glass. A cover for the sensor? Also in the plastic cover was a little square electronic device that was plugged into a small wiring harness. Any thoughts on what that could be? Auto headlight sensor??

Did you have this plastic shield secured to the windshield on your car? Is it really needed for the unit to work or can I use the same double sided clear tape and just remove the shield first, making sure the glass is all cleaned up from any adhesive?

When I hold the sensor against the clear glass just outside the shaded section it senses the rain and triggers the wipers so it appears to be operating just fine. For some reason it is having trouble seeing through the blackish shield. Thoughts?

Take some pics. I just had the rain sensor cover, two wires coming from the headliner, one plugged into the rain sensor, the other plugged into a square box attached to the windshield. After removing the rain sensor cover, and the sensor, there should just be that little square black box and I'm not sure what it is, but some type of plastic or membrane with a rectangular window (location where the rain sensor lens would be placed). I'm not sure what that black box sensor is for, but I believe the sensor for the auto headlight is above the dash area and closer to the bottom of the windshield. Need to research what that is specifically, someone on here may know.

I think the rain sensor cover is just to clean up the wiring and provide a cleaner OEM look.

Apparently that little square computer chip looking thing that's plugged into a two wire harness is the automatic defog sensor. I'm not sure if this is supposed to be attached to the glass or just flop around under the big plastic cover that houses both that sensor and the larger auto wiper rain sensor.

Do you know any way to keep the sensor plastic cover on. Just keeps falling off.
Thank You

Possibly 3M Clear Rear View Interior Mirror mounting kit? Comes with a small bit of primer that you put on windshield after cleaning it then adhesive for the mirror slug. Last time I used it I let it cure overnight and 2 years later when I sold the car it was still there. Now this was a different install as I was reattaching a GM R/V Mirror with On-Star and camera. It was quite heavy and retention was good.

The plastic cover is supposed to have the rain sensor lens clipped onto it. The rain sensor cover then has a flat plastic surface that in turn is attached to the windshield with clear adhesive. I used clear silicone and taped the entire thing in place while it set for a day.

As a side note, those that are concerned about getting the right glass for rain sensor applications, my 2010 had the windshield replaced at some time and they just put in a regular windshield with the shading all around the rear view mirror area. I decided to adhere the rain/defog sensor right on that shading and guess what?? It still works!
