  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Yes - I did a search on this subject. Found many threads that discussesd and suggested replacement batteries. But did not find a single thread where someone actually bought, and had installed, an aftermarket replacement battery for a 2021 g80 2.5t.

Please don't tell me about your replacement for a 2020 or earlier G80. I believe the 2021 is a different animal. And perhaps the 2022 and later G80's have different battery than the 2021.

What I am looking for is one of the following vendors who can sell and install a replacement battery:
Interstate? Batteries Plus? Autozone? Advance Auto Parts? O’reilly?
I could call the above and ask if they have a replacement battery. But I'd rather hear from someone who actually successfully bought, and had installed, a battery from one of these vendors

My battery is ok for now, but after 3.5 years of Florida heat I know it won't be long before I need a new battery. I do carry a lithium ion jumpstart pack in my car but I read (on this forum) that some of you have had dead batteries that could not be jump started.

Also - I called my dealer (Coastal Hyundai, Melbourne FL) and they quoted me out the door price to replace of $382.87, which is reasonable. But they have none in stock, and say that when I need one that they would have to order, and could take 2 weeks to get one.

So again - if you have actually successfully replaced your battery for a 2021 G80 2.5T, please enlighten me.

What you say is very true in general for batteries that are mounted under the hood, with the hot engine. Batteries in the trunk can and do last much longer, even in our heat zone.
There are battery testers that do a pretty good job of determining the battery's state of health. Get one, or get one of the auto parts stores to test for you. Your battery should go at least five or six years before it's even close to needing to be replaced. (Note, that you must test at the battery posts, not and the jump points.)

What makes it different? What size is it?

The 2021 has a custom battery with connections, tubes, etc. like I have never seen. The owners manual does specify size or other data. See the attached picture for what the battery (in the trunk) looks like. Note that the positive connection (right side) does not use a typical clamp to post connection.

I called all of the following:
Advance Auto Parts
Interstate
Batteries Plus
Autozone
O’reilly
NONE of these vendors offer a replacement battery for a 2021 G80.

It looks very similar to the battery in my 2018, and the battery itself is similar, but smaller. The positive and negative posts are swapped though. I think this is why your battery is hard to find.
All trunk mounted batteries have a tube connection for venting to the outside.
That positive battery junction box that you picture connects to a standard battery post. It is part of the car, not part of the battery. It removes from the battery and you will see that the battery is just has the normal two battery posts that you are used to with other cars. That battery junction box is not unique to your car. Some variation of it is used on just about all cars now, instead of the plain cable from years ago.
Also, that actually is a typical battery clamp on the battery post, it's just inside the junction box.

I brought a 21 in Feb and I'm worried about the same thing. I'm in the Tampa bay area so I know what the Florida heat does to batteries. My mechanic told me the dealer was the best option for a replacement cause the parts for the 21 are hard to get a hold of as genesis changes and doesn't make it clear for aftermarket parts what fits what exactly. And they can't afford to order the wrong thing and send back. So when the time comes. I'd say the dealer is your best shot. And $382? My old in st Pete at the time I asked quoted me $500 something. So yeah. Maybe If I'm ever over that way I'll use your dealership and replace the battery before I'm left stranded.

I have finished my quest to find an aftermarket battery for my G80. Results:
  1. I called 5 auto parts retailers – no battery available
  2. I contacted my genesis dealer – they said no aftermarket battery they knew of
  3. I emailed Interstate Battery Corporate (they make our battery), asked if I could order direct from Interstate, they responded Genesis does not allow us to sell these batteries at retail (WTF a battery monopoly?)
The only good news is that my genesis dealer said they would provide me with a free loaner (as long as still in 5 year warranty period) if I need a battery and they do not have one in stock.

This is not generally the case anymore. The batteries usually give little to no warning whe. They go and the auto stop feature makes a big difference on the battery life as well, it states it in the manual. I am not sure if the battery needs to go to have issues either. If you are close at 3.5 years I would go ahead and replace the battery why wait. The battery life as stated I now see ma yak is 3 to 5 years and dealerships I would say 5 is the max you will get out of it. AC and auto stop feature will play a major role I. The life of the battery.

I put my battery on a trickle charger for AGM batteries about once per month. This greatly extends battery life. A trickle charger extended my boat battery life from 2 years to 7 years. My 2015 Genesis battery lasted 8 years. My 2019 Navigator with start/stop still has it's original battery.

Your vehicle will auto stop/start less often if the battery is getting weak (outside temperature and other things also affect the frequency).

If I go on a trip and my car is in the garage, I always leave it on a trickle charger.
