  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

The rubber molding on my Genesis that fits at the bottom of the rear window and keeps water from running down into the trunk opening is deteriorating and I'd like to replace it. Has anyone replaced that yourself and can offer advice? Looking at it I'm not entirely sure how it's attached and how hard it would be to remove the old and install the new. Looking at the rear window parts diagram it seems to be part 871363M000 which itself isn't very expensive. Can anybody verify that is the correct part number?

I am in the same boat and need to replace mine. Someone told me that the rear window needs to come off which I am unsure of. Hopefully someone has advice or has done this already.

I successfully removed the old molding and replaced it. The part number I posted above, 871363M000, was the correct part. The rubber molding has a "U" shape which just slips onto the lower edge of the glass. Removing the rear window wasn't required. On my car there wasn't any obvious adhesive holding it on, just a press fit. I got it loose by lightly taping at the edge where it it overlapped the glass with a small wood block and a hammer and then it just pulled off. About an inch or so of the rubber under the glass in one spot tore away and I had to dig it out with a utility knife and an awl.

To install the new molding I lightly coated the groove that fits over the glass edge with carwash soap and pressed it into place. Getting the molding centered on the glass was the only challenging part. I had to pull it back off twice and adjust it which was no problem. Once it was where it should be I took my wood block and tapped it up tight against the glass. It'll be nice to no longer have all the dirt on the back window wash down into the opening around the trunk every time it rains.
