  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Need help with install. Apparently you just pull it off, can anyone else confirm this? Old one is scratched and looking to freshen it up with a new one.

yes, just yank upward. watch your nose. i replaced my shifter a few months ago.

Where did you find a replacement? Mine is delaminating a bit and I've thought about replacing it.

I bought my new shifter off eBay for about $30. Just pull up really hard and it will come off.

Is that really all that has to be done? Pull up? Nothing to unscrew or unclip or loosen in any way first?

the knob and the leather boot are clipped together, so you may find it easier to unclip the boot from the surrounding trim first before you yank upwards, but yes, the knob is held in place by a metal clip and removal is pull straight up.

Correct, just grasp the shift knob and pull up hard. The knob and shift boot will just pop off. The knob is only help by plastic pressure fit tabs which give away when pulled. I personally use a plastic panel tool to first unclip the boot(prevent breaking the tabs on the boot) from the console and then pull the knob up.
