In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. REPORT: Hyundai Equus coming to the States in July 2010, priced under $60,000

What I am wondering is if the base engine for the 2011 Equus in the USA will be the V6 or will they make the 4.6L V8 (375hp) with the six speed ZF as the base model starting at $48K and add the new 5.0L V8 (420+hp) with 8-speed transmission as the higher priced model option.

If I was a bettin' man I would say they'd use the V6, if only to help with their compliance with CAFE standards, and at the same time capture few more customers.

Hyundai's fleet rate was already 30.4 in 2006 (latest data I could find). I don't think Hyundai needs to worry much about CAFE (they are third behind Honda and Toyota) by comparison GM was 24.7 the same year.

In the US market, I don't see Hyundai leading with the current V6. Market competition is all V-8 or larger...

I've heard that Hyundai will not bring the V6 Equus to the United States. At least not right away. Mercedes is working on their V6 S350 and so is Lexus with their LS350. So who knows for sure.. If Hyundai comes along with a V6 Equus and beats Mercedes and Lexus to the punch - that would be a very, very good thing.. Though personally - I'd have a hard time being satisfied with a 0-60 of 6.1 seconds in a full-size premium luxury sedan as it is.. I know that's being picky but that's just me.. The 5.8 to 60 run in my 750Li sometimes leaves me unsatisfied...

Hyundai needs to get that power up in the Equus if it wants customers like me to seriously consider them... Sad/True

I agree with everything you say here. I don't want the V6 as the base motor either. The V6 would be very underpowered for this size of vehicle. And it doesn't deliver that much better fuel economy in the Genesis anyway so to use the V6 in the Equus would be a big mistake and most buyers would be slamming their foot down to accelerate, which would defeat the purpose of saving fuel anyway. The Equus is a very high-end niche model so I don't think the V6 would do anything to improve Hyundai's overall fuel economy rating.

I think all of us potential Equus buyers would like to see the 4.6L V8 with ZF six speed auto as the base model and the new 5.0L V8 (maybe the rumored 5.5L) with the eight speed auto as the premium option.

Hyundai, please don't bring the V6 Equus to the USA. We want V8 power in the luxury Equus and the air-suspension featured in the Edmunds.com Equus article should be standard across the Equus range.

If I remember correctly, wasn't the new 5.0L V8 (or possibly 5.5L) intended for a long-wheel-base model Equus?
