  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hi, folks.

I am a new registered member, but have been a fan of the Genesis Owners Group for a few months.

I am a 2015 Genesis owner (3.8L sedan with the technology package that includes the seven-inch TFT-LCD instrument cluster) who has experienced the zero-odometer reset issue. I know that there was thread created about this issue in 2015 that included conversation through last fall. I bought my car new in the spring of 2016. It is a terrific car, but have experienced a number of significant electrical problems, including headlights that would cut out when using the turn indicators.

However, none has been more frustrating than the odometer resetting to 0 miles. Not the trip odometer, but the actual ODO.

For some people, this might seem like it's a blessing. Who wouldn't want a car that had effectively been deemed new by an electrical failure. Win, right? No.

Ethically, this has become a problem, and one that Hyundai doesn't want to address in any meaningful way. Since the repair, the true miles on the vehicle are unknown. In thoroughly investigating the process by which it was repaired, I have no confidence that the mileage was correctly re-entered into the odometer. In fact, I know the mileage they entered into the ODO was incorrect.

I am a car person, and could have purchased a number of vehicles when I bought the Genesis. I kind of fell for the car after a trip to South Korea. I have owned dozens of new, used and vintage cars. I have never experienced a zero ODO reset, and when I tell friends (and really anyone who will listen) about this they can't believe it. That has made my ownership of this car a lingering disappointment.

So I am coming to you, in earnest, and asking for a little help.

Hyundai doesn't want to talk about it with me any further. They have deemed the repair correct, and the mileage accurate. I believe and can document that neither accurate.

If you or anyone you know has experienced this with their Hyundai, could you please share with me how that was repaired and whether the issue was adequately resolved?

Do you remember how your local technician or Hyundai/Genesis customer service told you that they fixed the problem?

This has been a terribly frustrating experience because my state requires me to attest to the actual mileage of the car, which can't be done as a result of this odometer failure. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance for your help!
