In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. It is well known that the iPod integration of the tech package is retarded – no shuffle, and navigating through the menus is extremly slow.

After couple months of research and experiments, this configuration is the best that I can come up with. I want to share it with other iPod lovers here.

What you need are: 1) iPod Car Charger with USB connector, 2) A 3.5mm Male-Female connection cable

Here is how the connections go:

Benefits of this approach:
1) Full access to ALL iPod functions
2) No need to worry about running out of battery
3) Since the audio signal is not from iPod’s headphone connector, the audio out signal level is constant.

Since mine is a very thin iPod Nano, I can even just slip it between the console and the passenger seat.

Of course, only change your iPod settings when your car is not moving.

Nice, Thanks.

The non-tech package radio has shuffle, the tech package radio doesn't?

mine works just fine, just hit shuffle on the ipod before plugging it in. Then your good to go and can use the steering wheel.

I believe that you can not use the steering wheel controls with this set up? Also I have to keep the iPod out to change songs?

did you buy the ipod adapter from the dealership. Mine works fine. I have the tech package though. I select shuffle all songs and then plug in. Everything else I can do on the steering wheel or the tech control.

You are right. With this setup I need to keep the iPod out but now I have FULL control of my iPod. E.g. quickly change playlist/artist/album, scroll through the selection quickly. I think the key word here is "quickly". The Lexicon interface just too slow to me.

Regarding the steering wheel, I still can use the volumn up/down but not next/previous.

Yes. I got the adapter from the dealership.

May I ask if you have the Lexicon-17, Lexicon-14, or the non-Lexicon system.

I think we are talking about the ability to shuffle within playlists, which is a great feature of the ipod that is completely lost with the interface. I have the Lex 17 and must stay within the playlist song order. You can go to itunes and shuffle songs on your playlists before updating your ipod. Get tired of that order, simply re-shuffle then update again. You can always turn off the shuffle in I tunes to go back to the original order.

Yeah, fwiw I have the 14-speaker system and I either set shuffle and the playlist on the iPod before plugging in, or at least the playlist, because its is 100x faster and easier to do. I've yet to see a good implementation of iPod controls into a head unit though, so I don't expect too much. As long as I can play the music, shuffle and move between tracks, and see the artist info, I'm happy.

If I'm driving and want to change playlists, I prefer to just unplug the iPod, make my changes, and then plug it back in rather than move through the head unit's menus - even though its possible to do, it takes forever. Once I'm on the playlist I want, at least its easy for me to shuffle and track using the car's controls.

I have the Lexicon-17

What model of iPod do you have? I tried your method and could not get it to work.

The steps I took:
1 - Unpluged my iPod Nano from Genesis
2 - Turned on Shuffel (and I saw that little Shuffle icon on my iPod)
3 - Selected a playlist and started playing a song
4 - Connected the iPod integration cable to Genesis
5 - Connected the other side of the cable to my iPod

After the steps above, I could hear the sound from Lex-17 and song info from my Tech Package display.

HOWEVER, the little Shuffle icon on my iPod disappeared!!

When I hit next on the steering wheel, I got the next sequencial song, not a random song. :(

BTW, only the Lex-17 does not have the Shuffle feature, Lex-14 does.

No control or charging of 3G iPod. Not 100% sure I have a 3G (photo attached). The Genesis manual says 3rd to 5th Generation iPods are compatible.

I can get sound out of the LEX if the 3G i Pod is playing before connecting with the Hyundai iPod cable. However once connected no controls respond from the tech DIS system or the i Pod controls. Also the iPod doesn't appear to be charging.

Before I run out buy a new iPod, has anyone connected a 6th generation Classic (160GB). Can it be controlled by the DIS and does the iPod charge?

Has Hyundai given an update to the ipod integration on the Tech package?
I hate the fact that when going back to the playlist or artist it goes to the beginning of the list instead of where you left off. If I searched forward why have it start from the beginning. STUPID:mad:

Yes. It is that STUPID.:mad::mad:

No update from Hyundai yet...and I have given up hope already.

The only iPod I have is my iPhone which is rather a chore hooking it up after getting into the car and removing it when getting out.
I just threw in most of the songs I have in a jump drive and leave it in the car.
I find it to be more convenient, but not sure if the mp3 playback has shuffle feature.
I personally don't use it as I prefer to choose my own songs.
Didn't realize many owners like this shuffle feature.

Okay I have one better. I have an I touch opossums the first one that came out.
My new cool sweet ride said I needed Gen 3-5. So I go buy new Gen 3 itouch. Error reads not compatible and toggles any ideas?

I just bought an old beat up, scratched up 8 gb ipod nano from craigslist (40 bucks), filled it up and leave it inside the armrest and it works great all the time, and it displays the name hyundai on the screen of the ipod when you plug it in...

I think Gen 3-5 applies to traditional iPods, not iPod Touch (iTouch).

I have a iPod Touch 2nd Generation and I know it works with Genesis using the Hyundai cable.

I also know iPads do not work with Genesis. I think apple must have changed something on iTouch 3rd generation also. Can you return it?
