  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Recently developed a clunking sound right front area. Can hear it over small bumps and also if turning the wheel right and left while driving.

I put the bilsteins on myself, so I took off the wheel and retorqued everything. One thing I didn't install myself is the front swaybar. I think the chassis mounts for the swaybar bushing on the right is loose. But it could be more....

I know the swaybar brackets on the back have the holes spaced a different distance apart on the older cars than the new. I had to use the factory brackets to mount the neotech swaybar to the rear. The front was installed at a shop and I don't know what brackets went on, factory or eibach and I don't know if it matters. Does anyone know of the spacing between the bolts on those front swaybar brackets is different year to year as it is on the rear swaybar? I'm a little concerned they put the wrong brackets on and kind of torqued it but its now coming loose :( If the brackets are the same, perhaps its just backing off :)

The only other bolt I didn't do myself was the one that holds the top mcpherson strut mount onto the strut after the spring is compressed. I didn't have the tool to compress the spring to swap that so a shop did it for me. I've heard if that bolt is loose you get noise. OK, thats all. Any thoughts? thanks :)

Problem solved. Sway bar brackets and end links not torqued to spec.

No more clunk

It's good to hear that you have recovered from your problem and one thing I believed that you should not do any repair if you do not have enough knowledge about it. I always repair my vehicle from a car care center.

Agreed. The best part is the loose bracket was it was the one thing I had done at the "high performance" shop - the front sway bar as I don't have a lift to get to it. Everything I did myself is doing great.

The truth is, for simple swapping of parts, this is not rocket science. As long as you are safe and use common sense I think most mechanically competent people can do these simple things without the mechanic (assuming you have the tools). The benefit of doing it yourself (as I have learned the hard way) is that at least you KNOW it was done correctly :)
