If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Bought my 2017 G80 from Carmax Approx 1 year ago, Love it, but recently I noticed road noise and a ride difference. Inspected my tires and found the rear right slick, and worn on center to inside of tire. Left rear similar but not as worn. Replacing tires tomorrow, all 4. My question for the group is, is the right rear the drive tire. or how does the rear wheel drive deliver to the road. The tires are Ironman GEN 2 AS, the fronts have good tread. I will have alignment of all 4 wheels when new tires installed. Has this issue been seen by other G80 owners.

No. The rear differential splits the power to the two rear wheels. The power split is not necessarily even, but no one wheel is favored over the other all the time. (Example, if one wheel is on payment and the other is in the mud, the one in the mud will actually get most of the power. Then the traction control system will apply the brakes to the wheel in the mud to cause more power to go to the other wheel.)

Anyway, your problem is almost certainly alignment. Make sure it is a 4-wheel alignment, and tell them about the problem with the right rear. CarMax put Ironman on mine too. It's hard for me to wait for them to wear down before replacing them with something better.

Thank you this was helpful. I will add to my post after tire replacement and results of alignment.

The right rear is often wrongly called the drive wheel as it spins on slick surface or some fast starts. When the engine turns it pust torque to the driveshat nd it not only put power to the differential it tries to twist the car in the opposite direction, taking weight off the right side. That allows it to slip faster while the left tire is getting more pressure.

Alighment is the right thing to do though, keep an eye out for wear differential and do rotate.

Thank you this was helpful as well.

Out of alignment, Aligned. We will see next rotation 6k. Genesis dealer also found no filter element in engine oil filter canister. I had my oil changed at what should have been a reputable facility, this was noted on invoice from Genesis service shop. Also having TSB on driver seat shifting in corners being attended to by dealer. ABS Recall as well taken care of, fuse change. Front brake pads @ 38k 3mm, rears 6mm. Had front brake pads replaced and rotors turned. Will return when rears worn down more .All in all very happy with Dealership here in Pinellas Cnty, Fla. . There's only one. Not sure if I should name both good dealer and crappy service centers names on forum.

Curious on what damage if any may have happened due to filter being uninstalled for 5k.

Sure, why not. They both get what they deserve. I also wonder if they can track back to the guy that did not put the filter in. He deserves some attention from his boss.

Valvoline Instant Oil Change Park Blvd, shorted me oil filter. Have not addressed this with them yet. Fitzgerald Genesis Clearwater Fla. discovered missing filter element. They also did a great job on all the other Items. ABS Recall/ brake work on fronts, inspections of rear. 4 wheel alignment, awaiting TSB Parts. great service writer Garrett.

Thanks for reminding me why I usually avoid the quickie places. I paid $54 at the dealer

Hi Joe, I've had my 2018 G80 for a year and I had experienced the same problem. this will be the second time that I'm having to changed my right rear tire due to uneven wear. I believe it has something to do with suspension design.

OMG, reminds me of my friend Ron's father wondering the same thing, We used to go out in his dad's car and typucal teenagers, he'd peel out and lay rubber. Engine torque tends to lighten the load on the right rear allowing it to spin.

That was in a '57 DeSoto but the laws of physics have not changed. Perhaps a review of your driving habits would help.

Well, if it's design why haven't I had any problems with it?
I got rid of the Ironman tires when one got an unpatchable nail hole, but all four had even wear when I did so. I now have a good set of tires on, and they are all wearing very evenly so far, about 35K miles total at this point.

I wonder if the RadioJoe will respond with his experience since the alignment...

It does have something to do with suspention design; well sort of. The best design cannot overcome poor driving habits. Limited slip differential helps. but notice the word "limited".

Going back to high schoold ay you could have had a good sideline just selling right rear tires. Left foot on the brake, right pressing all the way on the gas. Let go of the brake and leave a few hundred miles of rubber on the asphalt.

I noticed the same exact thing on my 2022 G70 Sports Prestige when I was putting air in the tires last weekend. The right rear tire is almost bald with just 12,500 miles and 15 months and the left rear tire has a little less wear but needs replacing as well. I ordered two new rear tires from Tire Rack and they will be installed on Monday. A year from now I guess I'll have to get 4 new tires. I love the ride quality and handling on these tires, but I really wish they would last a little bit longer.

Unless you're tracking your car, you don't need summer tires, so you should get grand touring tires (like Primacy Tour A/Ss), or ultra high-performance A/Ss (like Pilot Sport A/S4s) at the most. I'm going to switch to touring tires before next winter on my '23.

Next year when I replace all 4 tires I’ll probably get the Michelin Primacy Tour A/S. Tread wear goes from 320 to 540. Since I’m only replacing two now, I wanted them to be the same.

Does anybody have the Michelin Primacy Tour A/S tires now that can tell me if they noticed a big difference in handling? Thanks

The AWD G70s come with those from the factory, so all AWD owners could chime in with reviews. But doubt anybody had both sets. You wouldn't notice much difference unless pushing the car hard, and in summer, meaning the tires are up to temperature. In mild weather/temperatures, A/S tires actually have better grip than summer ones. A lot of folks don't realize that.

I just replaced all 4 of my tires with the Michelin Primacy Tour A/S. I have one year left on my lease, so I thought it was the right time to do it and enjoy the tires and still have decent treads when I turn them in, since these have a higher tread wear count from 320 to 540.
