If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Yep. Todays the sad day. It is with sadness and anger/frustration I and many other DH owners say goodbye to bluelink/GCS. I know they are so many other threads on this but I figured I would start this one for our feelings about this and our obituaries.

P.S. mine still works in certain areas, but there are already a lot of areas where I am where Verizon has 3G shutdown. Also, inside engineers said the internal CDMA shutdown is schedule for Jan 3, 2023 and 12:01 AM EST. They also said some of the core might stay up for a few months after for 911 purposes but by early-late spring 2023 CDMA on Verizon will be gone.

This really has put me in a mood. So I now have a car (2016 Genesee Ultimate) with no remote start and many of its safety features disabled. Without a doubt, it’s the last Hyundai or Genesis I will ever own. What’s most frustrating is that for my wife’s 2015 Subaru outback…. Subaru has come up with a fix for her.!

You can get remote start. Many of us did. Works faster and more reliable too.

Update: mine is now cancelled. Hyundai cancelled the subscription overnight and it says I can’t resubscribe. Guess it’s time to look into maybe drone mobile or something.

I know, right. So pathetic Hyundai has no solution. I guess they can’t justify the cost for some type of solution. I’d even be willing to pay a bit for it. Unfortunately it’s probably going to take every Hyundai and Genesis owner in the US to contact Hyundai and protest outside their USA headquarters for them to even consider doing something, but even then, I doubt they would.

I cancelled mine in November...

You mean like replace every head unit? The 3G modem is built into it What do you suggest for a fix?
I believe that most head units are built by LG or Harmon so they may have to come up with the solution to be implemented. Or should it be Verizon as they are the ones that stopped the 3G.

I'm guessing it is more than just plugging in a $50 modem or it would have been done.

Yeah. I’ve talked about this in other threads. The only solution I could see is offering a piggyback module that allows the had unit to communicate through wifi to a hotspot installed in the vehicle. I believe Audi is doing something similar to this. I emailed Hyundai and they said they forwarded it to Hyundai america technical center (so basically their engineers, but I doubt they’re going to do anything with it and there’s no way to reach HATC.

Honestly, it might be Hyundai's fault. They probably wanted to save $20 a car back even in 2019 with the G80s, which I mean on a mass scale when you're selling hundreds of thousands of cars adds up quickly, but still, it's sad. Then again I don't know what LG and Harman were offering even back in 2015. It's not really Verizon's fault because they gave everyone notice back in like 2016, so they put 3g in 2019 models knowing that verizon 3g was originally going to shut down later that year (Verizon originally wanted to shut down 3g Dec 31, 2019, but extended twice to now)

Auto designs are usually finalized about four years ahead of production. Some 2018MY were affected but not all. Unless we know for sure who knew what and when it is not so easy to place blame to when it should have been changed.

My guess is it would be less than $20 but more of a communications and design deadline factor. We want the latest technology but still want to run those programs off the 5 1/4" floppy discs. Looking back, the modem probably should not have been integrated so it could be upgraded. Swapped out like that 2400 baud modem in your 386 computer.

For those of you affected by this, Lexus customers are even worst off:

Lexus Enform Safety Connect2010-2017 all models2; 2018 GXOctober 31, 2022, 11:59PM CST
Lexus Enform Destination Assist 2010-2017 all models2,3; 2018 GX3October 31, 2022, 11:59PM CST
Lexus Enform Remote20151; 2016-2017 all models2; 2018 GXOctober 31, 2022, 11:59PM CST
Lexus Enform Service Connect2016-2017 all models2; 2018 GXOctober 31, 2022, 11:59PM CST

I know this does not help any of you out. Just wanted to show you that Genesis owners is not the only one with the issue.

There are few systems that have external modems. Fewer that had software upgradable modems. Most of the head units being used have the modem built into them and there is no way to upgrade without replacing the main board. So many have said they would be willing to pay for an upgrade, but this would cost you thousands of dollars. Not a cheap upgrade by any means.

Good luck to all of you guys on what you decide to do. Getting an aftermarket remote start system is a good option. Trading in your vehicle to get a new/newer model is possible too or going to a different manufacturer and hope they make you happy. Take care.

Yeah. What’s funny is as far as I know, the modem on gen 1 bluelink was not integrated so that could have been changed out, but when gen 2 rolled around in 2014, they decided to integrate the modem into the head unit.

Good point. This is not just a Hyundai problem but an industry wide problem. I think why Hyundai and Toyota are getting so much critism is because they aren’t doing anything about it and it doesn’t even look like they tried to do anything. Where as you have Subaru and Volvo upgrading peoples modems because I guess either the modem or TCU was separate and upgradeable.

what chaps me off about the whole situation is that the car HAS a wireless modem built in that was meant to allow communication for downloading apps. The car STILL maintains wireless connectivity via that chipset when a wifi signal is available. The re-programming of the software to use that modem for bluelink connectivity should be possible, and at the simplest level, that would at least allow us to remote start our cars when they have connectivity to a wifi network (like in the garage at home, in my garage at the office, via a mobile hotspot, etc). Why was this not always an option?

Because starting a car in the garage is not a good idea and can be dangerous.

Look at my post here. I proposed this solution as well. I even sent an email to HMA in which they said they would forward it to HATC. I highly doubt they’re going to do anything with it. I can’t even reach anyone at HACT. I guess they don’t want any customers talking to engineers.

... Why was this not always an option?
Because that WiFi will only work with the headunit powered up. The car's battery will go dead in a day or two if the headunit remains powered.

Unless your garage is just a garage door to the alley, and open on 3 sides. I've heard of it referenced as a "California carport", but it could be called something else where you live. We just call it "the garage".

Really? Would this be software updateable or does this require a hardware LE chip?
