  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

RIP Bluelink/GCS

While I understand the "why" this is happening, it is ridiculous on a $56k sedan. I have an idea, stop extorting extra money from customers for a subscription in order to use a basic function such as remote start. My brother's truck has it on the dang key fob included without the monthly subscription. Shame on you Hyundai. Plus, it's not like the car is 20+ years old (which I'd understand if it was), it's 7 or 8 years old.

can’t even reach anyone at HACT. I guess they don’t want any customers talking to engineers.
Do you know many large companies where you can call them and say “put one of your top engineers on the phone. I would like to take up some of their spare time”

Shame on much of the auto industry. Many car makes have gone to the subscription based extras. Many have the same 3G problem too.

My mistake was paying for the service for the past tow years. Should have had a remote starter installed after the free 3 years was done. Works better.

Even worse, they no longer offer the 8 track tape players.

Unless your garage is just a garage door to the alley, and open on 3 sides. I've heard of it referenced as a "California carport", but it could be called something else where you live. We just call it "the garage".
Carport works. I think or garage as enclosed, often part of the house.

Looks like TSLA is offering upgrades to their old cars to replace the modem. They're a different story though, the whole damn car pretty much depends on an internet connection. Without it, you have no nav, don't know where the superchargers are and they don't give you Android Auto/CarPlay either.

I dunno, this doesn't really bother me as connected features weren't a consideration for me when buying a car. Because I work in tech, I know these things would eventually stop working and I hate subscriptions... lol. The only time I use it is to check to see if my car is still at the airport... something I can do now with a $30 AirTag.

Try not to buy big ticket items that has features that require a mobile app or at least don't let it be a deciding factor because you'll never know when they go away. I have $500 headphones that no longer work because the manufacturer went belly up. If they were just plain plug in headphones or use regular Bluetooth, they would still be working... some features wouldn't work but at least I could still use them as headphones....

I’m taking my wife’s 2017 Audi Q7 in for an update to the software that will change the 3g to 4g so at least they’re doing something about it. Not sure how they’re doing that since it seems like it would be a hardware issue. I guess I don’t care as long they’re doing something about it.

I also was talking to someone today they was saying they read that BMW is going to start requiring a subscription for stuff like the use of heated seats on some of they’re models lol. Not sure if it’s true but I actually don’t think I’d even be surprised haha.

BMW's already started doing that in some markets. In that situation though, BMW does give the option for a lifetime subscription so in that sense, it's no different than having them optioned up front at the time of purchase.

I'm okay with that as long as they keep giving free modem upgrades to make sure the heated seats are permanently enabled because that's what I paid for. If they don't then they have no right to be pissed off when I pay some hacker to permanently enable everything on a product they no longer support and obviously don't care about... lol...

...
I wonder does that transfer to the next owner if/when you trade?

Seems like it is being done in some places. That would really piss me off, enough that I'd not buy a BMW. When you buy the car you are paying for all the contents in that vehicle, such as the heating elements in the seats. Now you want me to pay $18 a month to use them? Nope, not going to happen.

Yeah, that's BS.

You can get remote start. Many of us did. Works faster and more reliable too.
What one did you get and why?

I went with Compustar 9500. I've read some good things about it, local dealer has good reputation, price seemed decent.

They have three models, I chose the middle one. Each was about $100 jump. Mine has feedback that you know is stated, top model allows you to use your phone but has a subscription fee. I paid about $450 installed.

It bugs me when I see an ad for a used 2017-18 G80 and they list in the vehicle description all the Connected Services features. I'd be really upset if I bought one used, just to find out all that stuff won't work.

If they have the 8" screen (non-ultimate), then Connected Services should still work.

If it uses 3G it won't...

That is his point. They do not.

Interesting. My wife's KIA has the same 8" head unit. Never noticed. I'll just have to console myself with installing the KPLAY box to get CarPlay... Which her car has as well... So much for the "Premium" navigation suite, eh?

I get it, but they still advertise Connected Services on models that won't have it.
