If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. Hey everyone,

I am debating about whether or not I should drive my brand new 2012 Genesis to Connecticut or Rent a car, I live in Florida so this will be a total of 2,200 miles road trip in my car. The main concern isn't the mileage but more of the rock chips and such. What do you think I should do?? Would it damage the car if I did travel with it (I usually rent cars when going on trips so I'm not really sure how many rock chips and such it would cause to my front).

I do realize that it's hard to estimate if any damage was going to occur but how many of you guys traveled on a long trip with your Genesis and noticed a lot of rock chips and such in the front?

I would drive it and enjoy it. Just use good sense and try to not remain behind the 18 wheelers.

if mileage is not an issue, then definitely drive it.
cheaper than renting too, unless you rent an econobox.

Drive it and enjoy it! - I drove my Genesis from Minnesota to Florida last winter and will do it again next month. Highway miles are good miles.
Plus you get to try out the neat toys such as the Smart Cruise Control and Navigation System features.

Don't tailgate and you won't get as many rock chips!

rock chips are CODB. Either you get a clear bra,get those hideous vinyl bras, or just paint the front end when it gets real bad, or ignore it. Either way drive your car and enjoy it. No sense in treating a car like a Faberge egg.

Whether you do the miles on the interstates between Fl and Ct or just around Fl, chances of chips are about the same. I have been doing the Fl - Ct round trip each winter for many years and have yet to be "chipped". You will love the drive in your Genesis.

I took my first road trip (about 1,100 miles) in my car in July and was glad I did. Sure, you can pick up rock chips and such on the freeway, but the worst damage I've experienced so far happened on the way to work when a rock hit my windshield and cracked it. Cars are meant to be driven, so enjoy the trip in one you love to drive.

if it's any consolation to ya i took my Genny to Florida from NJ last May and just got back again (this time in m y new Durango) and i didn't sustain any damage from road debris (knock on wood). drive your car and enjoy!! good luck

Make sure your tires are up to snuff for snow.

Put in some low bids on priceline for a mid-size ($20 a day). On one hand you will enjoy the trip more in a rental and will appreciate your Genesis more when you get back. Consider your plans down the road too - are you going to trade under Hyundai assurance? How many miles do you drive? On the other hand, a month after your trip you will have forgotten all about what car you drove so it won't really matter.

Definitely DRIVE!!!

Its the best way to appreciate your new car.

You will be pleasantly surprised at how nice you feel on a road trip with the proper car.

ENJOY!!!

Take the trip! I did a 2200 mile round trip Florida to Ohio last month. Over- all mileage 26+ and the adaptive cruise made Interstate driving a breeze.

The POI nav was helpful in finding an overnite motel and it was the most enjoyable long distance trip I'd had in a long time.

Thanks so much guys for the feedback, this truly helps me facing the fear of driving the long distance. I'm going to take the drive up there with it :) I rather be in a very nice comfortable car rather then being stuck in a 2008 Dodge Ram for 18-22 hours with an average sound system.

I suggest you take it to a shop that will apply the 3M paint protection film to the front end. Probably cost around $500 or so. See [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j5uvuDlvC9I&feature=related[/url][/U]

I drove my new 2012 Genesis from The Villages to Connecticut after picking it up in Clearwater back in August. Drove leisurely visiting friends and clients as I drove up. Also used the diners, dives, and drive in apps on my iPad to stop at different diners. Best road trip I've ever had. My only recommendation is to have a great selection of music for the Lexicon including some DVD-A.

It's a Hyundai, not a Bentley. Just drive it and enjoy! :)

As previously mentioned, be ready for snow. An ounce of prevention ...

Thankfully nearly every year we go up there for Thanksgiving it never snows but then again the weather has been getting crazier each year. Thanks for the advise!

I took 2 long trips with the Genesis. it was one of the best ride for long distance. no chip no nothing. However, when I got back from the first trip my wife got chipped a mile down the road. The second trip she got into an accident 5 miles down the road the very next day. So you can't worry too much about it.
