  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Rock chips on front camera

I wonder what people would pay for one. They could send a a SASE and $2 cash and you send one back. $3 for 2
I was thinking $3.50 a pair free postage.

I’m getting a punch and try it out and if cleaner cut I’ll let you guys know.

^Me too!!

Anyone tried to go by their local window tint place who these days most use a stencil cutter to cut individual pre-cut window film for specific vehicles and see if they could cut some round camera lens protectors? A number of window tint places also carry 3M or similar clear bra like films. Measure the diameter of the camera lens and a stencil cutter will give you a perfect circle. A small piece of clear film could hold a number of pre-cut round films for a possible group buy.

I'm going to ask the local place that did my XPEL film exactly this on Monday/Tuesday. I'll let you know the results. The guy showed me their equipment and they basically can cut any profile in the film which is how they cut all the vehicle profiles for whatever car comes in. Its just a roll of film and a special printer/cutter (insert proper name here) lol.

Got a bunch punched out if anybody is interested.

So, I have recently noticed that it seemed my front camera was always dirty, and this summer we had a ton of rain so it made sense and I never really looked closely at the camera. But now our September has been nice and dry and my car has stayed clean, and I noticed I still didn't have a clear view. Example (hard to see in the pic, but there are a bunch of blurry looking spots):

So I finally looked at the actual camera thinking it needed a better clean, and it turns out it has a ton of little rock chips in it:

You can not clean that off. I am going to bring this up at my next service, but wondering if anyone else has had this issue or had it repaired?
I have a similar issue with mine. My car was an Edmonton area dealer demo, so it faced it's first winter near the Edmonton airport. I'm very curious if you manage to get warranty coverage for this issue.

I don’t believe that the dealers warranted this due to the face it’s not a defect that rocks are hitting the camera. Just like stated earlier they don’t have warranty windshields for rock chips. Luckily I didn’t have any chips and got my lens protector on to prevent any going forward.

Hey Max - as mentioned earlier in this thread, definitely not covered, especially here in 'stone country', no more than the windshield is. However, they do have that 'extra' warranty that includes one windshield replacement. Did you purchase that? If so then definitely ask as you never know. I'll be putting Expel on the front of the car for sure here - that's not even a consideration, just a fact of life here. I'll be getting them to cover that lens as the same time. It's too bad Genesis/Hyuandai doesn't just put that on automatically. TBH - I think all car companies that build cars with front cameras (unless they are behind the windshield like the Subaru Eyesight is) should put some kind of protective clear shield on said camera as a precaution. Wouldn't cost them much to do at factory. Of course, it won't help if hit by a big rock (and I've had a few holes punched in my windshield over the years thanks to the oil field trucks)

I have LLumar film on the front facing areas of the car, but the few spots that don't have any film took a real beating in the winter the car spent in Edmonton as a test driver. The lower chrome trim pieces in particular took a super pounding, and my camera is pretty banged up. Too bad they didn't think to put a film on the camera, that would have been a tremendous low cost investment for sure.

I do have a warranty package that comes with 2 windshield replacements, which was crucial as the windshield had a good size crack in it initially. This was part of the Cilajet paint protection package. The Cilajet itself was completely worthless as the dealer didn't bother with any paint correction before slapping it on, but that is a separate issue altogether.

There is a cnc profile for the lower chrome trim, at least XPEL has it. Had those pieces done on my car along with the full front bumper as mine was also a demo and noticed it getting destroyed. Lol

Yeah I'm going for the Xpel and will make sure they get all that front stuff covered. Some of the places I go my vehicle literally gets sandblasted by the oilfield trucks. I may have to get smart, stay patient, and use other vehicles as shields lol.
