  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I have a 2011 4.6 sedan. Runs and starts fine, except when I fill it with gas. EVERY time I put gas in it, it starts but runs rough for just like 2 or 3 seconds, then all is fine.
I do not overfill the tank, I just let the nozzle click off when full. I believe it also does it when just adding gas without a fill up, but cant remember for sure.

Anyone else had this issue?

No check engine light on, except for my airbag, which I haven't figured out yet.

Hard start and rough idle after fueling is a classic symptom of a failing/failed Purge Valve. Replacement is an easy 5 minute fix on a 4.6 with a 10mm socket, some pliers and a body trim pry tool or hose pick for the hoses.

Thanks for the quick reply. I will take a look at replacing the purge valve.

I had the same thing on 2012 5.0. Did purge valve and new gas cap and problem solved. Never been back since.

Any link to a thread as I did overfill this past week and the car did not start up 1st try almost as if the starter was about to fail. Gave it a 10 second rest and started it 2nd try which wobbled and did eventually start and had a few second hesitation but has been okay since.

Wondering if I did it because I overfilled (normally dont) and/or need to look at the purge valve issue ahead of it....

Haven’t had an issue with rough starts but did have an issue with a CEL on the dash after getting fuel. It lasted for about 60-70 miles and 3-5 engine stop starts and went out by itself.
I believe it might be related to my gas cap…when I bought the car new I would get gas and install the cap to “one click”.
Last year I noticed it doesn’t click anymore so I tighten and make sure it “springs back”. No issues since. Might be purchasing a new OEM cap and purge valve soon.
