  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Is this a common issue? My hood is rusting in several spots. Most of the spots are on the edges, many of them all the way at the top where the wipers sit so you can only see them clearly when inside the car and looking out at the hood. There are a couple of spots on the top/bottom which may be due to rocks, but the spots on the edges are nowhere near where a rock could hit them unless it defies the laws of physics or bounces off the windshield. Even the ones on the top of the hood, I don't think I've had a car in the past 15 years that wasn't able to withstand road debris.

I have two weird spots on mine in the same area but hey are not rusty (yet). It just tells me that someone was trying to replace wiper blades and didn't put them into service mode but simply tried to lift them up and hit the hood edge with the metal part of the wiper blade.

The hood is aluminum. So it shouldn't rust regardless. I dunno.

Wow really? I will have to take some pictures and upload them. I think Kocyk123 might be correct in that it must have happened at a service when they were trying to change the wipers out, that's all I can think of. I will have to see if the wipers match up with the rust. I hope they don't try to blame this on me, I've never touched the wipers. Unfortunately I'm stuck servicing it at a Hyundai service shop as Genesis is too far away from me.

Yeah makes sense. Now I have to prepare for them to say it was my fault, sigh. Unrelated but I dig the pic of the Audi A8 on your sig. I had a 1997 and a 1998, absolutely loved those cars, might still have them but the tranny blew out on both of them as ZF had a LOT of issues with that generation. Had a A6 after that which lasted forever, but not as fun as the A8's.

These were great cars! I had mine D2 for over 6 years now and replaced tranny last year at 225k. They guy said that it was the first time the tranny was services and congratulated me that it lasted 225k miles. I had one guy on the forum that his original tranny lasted 270k miles before he did the rebuild. I loved my 07 A6 with 4.2FSI but timing chain was PITA and that is why I sold it..... Having Genesis now, I don't really miss any of my previous Germans :)

This!
That is the reason, I demonstrate to car wash staff, how it works, every time I go there, I just do it myself. I don't expect them to remember that. Better safe than sorry.

I also have a couple small rust spots on the passenger edge that I can see when sitting in the car, now that think about it it's not a spot where you would think anything would hit the paint. Must be the wipers and someone's attempt to change them. Looks like I need to get some touch up paint!

Hey guys, what's the best way to address this? I'm going to complain and see if they can repair it, but I have a feeling they will deny it and blame it on me. I'm not going to file an insurance claim over something small like this.

So how to repair it myself? I know I can order a small bottle of touch up paint for my color code from an auto parts store or internet. But how do I treat the rust and make sure it's gone, I don't want to have to deal with cancer later on. What's the proper way to DIY fix this?

If it's just a small hole or scratch in the paint that's rusting, just sand the rust down first to bare metal before touching it up. Might need a sanding stick if it's a thin spot. If you just paint over the rust, the rust could still propagate under the paint.
