If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hyundai Motor America Reports March 2009 Sales

FOUNTAIN VALLEY, Calif., April 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Hyundai Motor America today announced sales of 40,721 vehicles in March, a five percent decline versus March 2008 but a 33 percent increase over February volume levels.

"We are satisfied with our overall performance in this difficult business climate," said Dave Zuchowski, Hyundai Motor America vice president of national sales. "The fact that we experienced only a nominal decline from an all-time March sales record in 2008 is acceptable to us. Even with continued economic stress and industry uncertainty, this performance is a clear indication that the Hyundai brand is sustaining its momentum and expanding its relevance."

"As we enter the important spring selling season, we fully expect to build on our one percent year-over-year sales increase for the first-quarter of 2009 with continued consumer interest in our Hyundai Assurance Program, growing recognition and acceptance of Genesis as North American Car of the Year, and terrific new models like the new Elantra Touring and Genesis Coupe which will be entering full launch mode."

All new Hyundai vehicles sold in the U.S. are covered by America's Best Warranty. In addition, the Hyundai Assurance Program is now offered on all new Hyundai's leased or purchased at a participating Hyundai dealership. Hyundai Assurance provides protection from certain income-changing life events, allowing consumers to return their vehicles in the first year of ownership without impacting their credit histories, while covering vehicle depreciation (negative equity) up to $7,500.

For a limited time, Hyundai is also offering Hyundai Assurance Plus, adding 90 days of payment relief to the existing protection plan. Hyundai Assurance Plus is part of Hyundai's Spring Sales Event, which runs until April 30, 2009. Hyundai Assurance and Hyundai Assurance Plus are complimentary for the first 12 months of ownership. The programs supplement all existing consumer incentives, and are available to any consumer, regardless of age, health, employment history or financed amount of the vehicle. Visit www.HyundaiUSA.com for details.

Hyundai Motor America, headquartered in Fountain Valley, Calif., is a subsidiary of Hyundai Motor Co. of Korea. Hyundai vehicles are distributed throughout the United States by Hyundai Motor America and are sold and serviced by more than 780 dealerships nationwide.

Decent numbers from Hyundai considering where we are with the economy right now. I received the May edition of Motor Trend today and they call the coupe a potential "Mustang Killer". Things are getting interesting. Thanks for the info!

At the rate the Genesis is selling Hyundai could easily sell over 20,000 Genesis thus year. Looks like the sales of Azera is hurting by the Genesis.

It lost to the Mustang and Z in their comparison test IIRC.

Lets hope the sales increase because that is not impressive, especially when you consider how much Azera sales have tanked since the Genesis sedan's launch. The Genesis sales figure accounts for both coupe and sedan sales. Hyundai had originally forecast sales of 50k units annually for both (20k sedan and 30k coupe). Granted this was prior to everything going to hell in a hand basket. :D

I know the Sonata is in for a redesign, but haven't heard anything regarding the Azera. It needs to be redesigned ASAP or dropped.

We had a XG350L that was totalled. Went looking for a replacement and I thought we'd get a Azera, but my wife HATED the looks when she saw her 1st one close up. No deal. So we bought one of the last 2005 Sonata's to be had. (She also wasn't thrilled with the 2006 Sonata looks) The old design floated her boat and made me happy since it was greatly discounted. My neighbor was also looking at Hyundai because we liked our two cars. His wife also hated the Azera looks and they bought elsewhere. So IMHO the Azera and it's ugly back-end is it's own worst enemy.

*shrug*, I quite like the Azera. In fact, I almost purchased the one below before deciding to wait a couple months for the Genesis.

I didn't think was all that bad myself. However, SWMBO didn't like it at all. Hearing my neighbor tell me the same thing regarding his wife lead me to believe that women dislike the Azera more than most men.

Not a good sign that the sales figures for March did not separate the Genesis sedan and coupe. After all, they are very different cars. For the last couple of months Hyundai has touted the fact that Genesis (sedan) sales had stayed above 1000 per month and around the middle of March Hyundai said sales of the coupe were "smoking". It makes me wonder if sedan sales are actually down for the month. If anyone finds the breakdown between sedan and coupe sales for March I hope they will post them.

Local dealer couldn't sell a car if ya walked in and dropped cash on their desk. I went in twice with a "buy-buy" signal and never got asked to do a contract. Plus was told that they were dealing on V8's, only V6 cars. So I gave them a "bye-bye" signal and bought elsewhere for ~$3K off MSRP.
When following my wife home that day I saw two other new Genesis cars with various paper dealer nametags in lieu of plates, so someone is buying in S. CA. Or did within the past 2 months, since it takes CA forever to supply plates.

It's interesting that they indicate that they sold "0" Genesis in CY2008. Yet, several individuals on this forum have posted that they purchased their cars in the Oct - Dec '08 timeframe. Do they automatically shift the numbers to '09 because the car is an '09 year model? Or have they failed to capture those numbers? Any insights?

I would think it is based on model year and not the year the car was purchased. As I too purchased my car in Dec '08.

Shouldn't they still put the total number of sales for 2008 even though it wasn't a complete year? FWIW, the Genesis went on sale the last week of June 2008.

I can agree with that argument. But they probably like doing things to confuse the hell out of us. And it appears to be working!

I traded an Azera (2007) for the Genny back in August. I really liked the car, and had decided if I didn't get the deal I wanted on the Genny that I'd keep the Azera. It was a very comfortable car to drive, and I drive quite a bit w/my work. Looks good on the road...still enjoy seeing them around town/on the road.

But, I'm lovin' ol' Genny!!!
