If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Say Goodbye to the Flat Spotted Tires / Shuttering Theory

New Michelin tires, alignment completed, entire driveshaft replaced, dealer has now swapped tires and rotated them and VIBRATION is still there.. They believe it's the rear end and now they are replacing the rear axle.. Next would be the rear differential.

Had all that done already, no change. It's the torque converter. I thought they were going to appease me and swap my transmission but the dealer somehow decided to squash it.

Did they fix the torque converter? How is this causing the vibration? have others found this as the solution?

Rear axle replaced, rear differential replaced, no fix.. dealer now says we cannot continue on fixing anything until you put new tires on it as they have to rule that out again. I have a Michelin pilot on it and even though they swapped the tires twice they’re back to the tire being the issue. Again someone else said this what’s the point of a warranty when they won’t fix it.

I'm not buying any of this crap! Torque converter? Not even remotely possible as the source of my vibration. A "magic" lube? Who are you trying to kid? Sell the car? Not my way out, I like it way more than that, but I guess it worked for dboz1031. Is that the ONLY reason for selling, dboz? Seems silly to me.
My vibration is sometimes not even there, and it goes away within four miles of driving anyway. I am disappointed that Hyundai can't fix it but I'll live with it because the car itself is fabulous.

Had the driveshaft replaced a month ago and the vibration is gone (at least so far - fingers crossed). I have had a couple of long chats with the mechanic that has worked on this issue from day 1. Even with the new parts, it was difficult & very time consuming to get the precise angles that Genesis is wanting. A lot of measurement and readjustment involved. I wonder if some of the dealer techs are not taking enough time to get it right. Nonetheless, there is still no excuse for a manufacturer properly identifying and solving this issue long ago.

Did all of this on my car. Zero change. Added new tires, no change. Keep it simple, the transmission is expensive and they don't want to replace it. There is no other explanation. Drive shaft bullcrap. Had 3 of those. 100% converter. No way are the angles that sensitive. That is just more bullcrap.

My car was awesome, hated to sell, really thought about it a long time. The pano creak and this vibration was just too much to handle after 2 full years and 4 months in the shop. Silly? To you, not to me. Life is too short and I don't get screwed over by anyone. I will never be back to the Korean brands. And I had vibration on the highway and elsewhere which also lends to torque converter issues, it was just horrible at 27-30. Some days way worse than others. And yeah, miracle lube helped, not gone. That said, took my money and moved on. My vibrations would still be there after 25 minutes of highway driving. And a luxury car with those issues is NOT FABULOUS. Glad you are happy with a crappy product, I was not. Inexcusable in my book from a luxury brand. Lexus, MB, BMW, no customer at those brands would TOLERATE that. Tired of dealing with it and tired of their bullcrap excuses. I spent my own money on new tires on top of it all. Maybe for some it does not bother them, but to me it was nails on an chalk board. Believe what you will. Resetting the transmission also lessened the issue. So how does that have anything to do with a drive shaft?? I really don't care if you believe me or not, enjoy your shaking luxury car. I sold mine at 32k on the Ultimate AWD 3.8. Used cars are crazy now, got more now than they offered me 14 months ago when I tried to dump it then.

I read these nightmares and really hope my car doesn't begin to do this.

Did these cars to this from day one, or did they start after so many miles? I only have 7k miles on my 2019 G80 base.

The answer to your question may depend on several factors: The main questions are "Do you have a vibration, in the steering wheel or sensed through the seat or floor, at a speed near 30-36 mph?
Do you have all wheel drive.
If those two answers are negative, relax! You're okay!
If not, what sort of problem do you have, if any?

BTW, this is gonna hit these cars next, no fix. ANother reason I sold. You will know you have the issue if your seat belt light comes on and off randomly. Mine did this multiple times over the winter. No codes are thrown and the dealer could not replicate. I should them pictures of the issue with me driving with the light on, sorry, nothing we can do about that. The owners manual states you have no safety systems working if you get that light and the seat belt is buckled.

When I purchased my car it had 38k on it. No driveline issues then. In the mid 40's the clicking started but I did not notice any vibrations. Not until I put it up on stands (and ran it without wheels), did I notice the vibrations. Only until the mileage was in the mid-late 40's did I feel vibrations on the road. Now, with over 50k on it, the shaking is getting pretty severe. New set of tires recently did nothing as did the new front guibo.

One forum member a while back had his shaft replaced and sawed it open to find maybe some kind of internal damper that had come apart. Too bad he couldn't produce any decent photos of what was going on in there.

It sure would be nice if someone here who had their shaft replaced could get ahold of the old one and cut it apart.

My sunroof has now started to rattle when going over bumps. Looks like this stuff will at some point happen to most of us.

I have had vibration that comes and goes in my RWD 5.0. Just wrapped up a 14 hr drive, and while not severe it is annoying. Typically smooths out after driving for awhile, then can become noticeable again with no real rhyme or reason. Other times it's just fine.

Not bad enough yet to get me into the dealer yet.

Anyone else with the 5.0 have vibration issues?

Yes 15 5.0 Ultimate, I had very little vibration that would come and go. I stepped up to a 40 in the back and that really helped out. Other than that car is smooth. Its been sitting for 4 months . I will see how she does this weekend. I pull tires off for the winter to avoid flat spots.

Thanks for the encouraging words. I haven't had any trouble with the car at all, no vibration or tapping sounds. Just hoping it doesn't surface after I put more miles on it.

When mine acted up initially, I requested to drive a few new ones. They all did it on the ones I drove. Most won't notice it initially as it just feels like road vibration. Over time I could tell on startup sitting in the garage if it was going to be smooth or rough. Also had many days while sitting at a light the car would shimmy sitting there. No one on here wants to hear it because that is not a drive shaft issue. I have ZERO doubts as to the cause. The super lube calmed things way down, almost to tolerable but I had a dealer contact me about selling and I got 21g for the car. I only paid 27 2 years ago plus 13k miles and about another 4 on their loaners. All said and done, I was very happy to exit the car at that price. Most had it book for about 17-18g range as did most majors like CARMAX and WEBUYANYCAR. Its a crazy time in the used market right now.

So, the assumption here is that there's some type of filler inside the hollow driveshaft, and if it goes loose, it'll be off center and wobble? Very likely possibility.

It fits the problem of occurring over time, and is just obscure enough to escape detection.

Does that explain why it goes away after 2-4 miles of driving, but it's back again the next day?

I think it's an AWD problem. though i've known the problem at 30-37mph.
Unfortunately not. My 2018 G80 5.0 RWD does it also.
