  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Say Goodbye to the Flat Spotted Tires / Shuttering Theory

Does that explain why it goes away after 2-4 miles of driving, but it's back again the next day?
Darn it. Nope! Arcman's theory make a lot of sense to me. He did some testing and thought it was the hard rubber grommets in the driveshaft couplers. He explained that when the car is parked and these parts are hot, these rubber parts will cool and harden in a off-center position, causing wobble when next driven. After a while they warm & loosen up. That can also explain why replacing the drive shaft fixes the problem for some people, they get fresh rubber in their couplers.

That could be a solution and also the problem, does not explain mine shaking while stopped.

So, I just finished reading this whole thread and it seems to me that there are different vibration issues depending on if its AWD or RWD.

Here is mine.... I bought my 2018 G80 5.0 RWD in June of 2020 with 23,800 miles in Southern Virginia. I noticed I slight clunking when quickly on and off throttle. Had the service manager take the vehicle for a test drive and he tells me he has driven hundreds of these cars and mine is perfectly normal, besides if these is any trouble I still have the remainder of the 5yr 60,000-mile warranty so I go ahead with the purchase. Fast forward 2 weeks and the clunking issue is really starting to bother me. Long story short version is I got a new rear differential as the old one had a bolt in it that was almost sheared off. The car was perfect for the next 17,000 miles smooth as silk. At my 40,000-mile tire rotation and oil change they also did a TSB for the transmission ( don’t have access to the code right now as I’m at work). I pick the car up and when I hit about 40 mph the whole car starts to vibrate but not through the steering wheel. The best way I can describe it is a severe wind buffeting like when only opening 1 window in a car. I immediately slow down and it goes away. I increase speed again to over 40mph and this time its normal. I park the car for about an hour to run some errands and when I get back in and get my speed to over 40mph it does it again. I call up the dealership and they say to bring it back in which I did and picked up my G70 loaner again. My service adviser calls me and said that the tech could not reproduce the vibrations, so he hops in the car and this time it vibrates. They have ordered me a new driveshaft.
My car has never vibrated at idle or anytime at all before.

After reading this thread I am somewhat leery of having the driveshaft replaced as it seems that if not done properly it just makes things worse.

I don’t know what to do. I love the car but don’t think I could live with the vibrations.

Yeah, I would have the driveshaft replaced but doubt it helps. You describe the issue well with the wind buffeting. I would agree with that. Hope a new shaft fixes you up. I had a new rear diff in mine also. Also had a new transfer case. They never bought into the torque converter, ARC may be right and its the drive shaft. I could feel it in the transmission as soon as I started the car. I am 100% certain I could do this in any of the these cars. I was the princess and the pea after two years of tuning into this issue like a hawk. I have mentioned this several times, never heard anyone else try it though......point the car down a steep incline and just hold the brake while sitting there. My car would shake while stopped almost every time doing this. My guess was the fluid shifted and changed pressure on the converter causing the vibration.

BTW, Attached is the TSB for the transmission. Anybody know what it does?
This update couldn't of caused the fluttering/ vibrations. Right?PXL_20210409_223451858.webp

Curious what your RPM is when in the above condition - certainly is not just running rough?

Sounds like a software reprogram. I had a few done in my '09 G37 over the years and it improved shifting each time.

Update. So I got my car back yesterday after the driveshaft was replaced and while going around 80mph on the highway the vibration returned though not as bad and at a higher speed. I slowed down to around 55mph and then accelerated back up to 80 and it was gone. I have driven the car at various speeds since then and it has not happened again. The dealership offered to take the car back and give me a loaner but i declined as there doesn't seem to be a fix for this. My plan is to keep the car for another 15 months when the warranty runs out and then sell it unless the vibrations become more frequent and intense then I will sell sooner. Hopefully Genesis will come out with a fix before then. Its a shame as I really like this car and planned on keeping it for 5 more years.

Can’t believe there isn’t a recall for this. What other recourse do we have as owners other than complaining online. I’d be curious as to whether the Koreans are having this issue as well. Shame I can’t read Korean so can’t check on their forums.

Update #2. 8 days and 400 miles later and...
There has been no vibrations! Just to be clear it's happened 3 times in the past 17,000 miles that I've owned the car and 2 of them happened on the same day and the other one was after the driveshaft change. I just don't understand the randomness of it but as long as it stays away I'm happy.

Had fluttering noise first and no vibration. Got driveshaft replace now I don’t have a fluttering noise but now I have a vibration at 30-35 mph. Feels like carrier bearing is hopping. Just had another driveshaft put in and vibration still there.

Great. Picking up my car today and will be livid if this issue appears. Could it be worth showing the dealership the pdf with the repair instructions? (forgot the abbreviation)

Could it be tied to warmer weather? Just wondering if the rubber driveshaft bushings might be more flexible.

2015 5.0 Owner here. It makes me relived to know that there's has been a whole forum dedicated to this issue and I am not going crazy ! Dealership and Multiple shops hit me with the "Cannot replicate this issue" and it drove me insane. There have been periods of rattle then no rattle, issue seemly is prominent when first starting. I tend to get it in the 35-40 range and slight vibration 70-80. Alignment helped a bit with the issue but it's still there. Curious to hear back from Archman. Thank u guys for your hard work

I doubt it as it's only happened when it was over 50 degrees. It didn't happen all winter

Follow up on my post of April 7 re the driveshaft replacement. Now almost 2 1/2 months since the TSB work completed and the vibration has not reoccurred. I am hoping that in my case at least, the fix is a permanent one.

Glad to hear this.
It's been 3 weeks for me and all is still vibration free.😊

My car with 2900 miles ( 202 G80 Sport) does the same thing. I had a BMW 740 that had an " unfixable" vibration. Turned out it was a weibo , similar to the rubber coupler from the trans to the driveshaft. But, this was at 138k miles. Replaced it and zero vibration. I do not know if this will fix the Genesis issue, but I do wonder if you took it out and tried to match it up with one from another manufacturer if we might had different results.
My dealer also claimed they didn't find and issue, even after I took the service advisor for a short ride and showed him.

They call it a “guibo” - driveshaft flex joint.
