  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

So recently I have been travelling and I got hit by a sandstorm, I slowed down to protect the car. However, the front camera didn't make it. 😑

I appreciate it if you have a suggestion on how to fix it instead of replacing it.

Here is a photo of the camera.

Ouch... That's pretty dang bad! I'm sorry! There was another member here that had something similar happen... I have a very small rock chip on mine.

Replacing the camera is expensive, unfortunately. I asked my dealer if they'd replace mine under warranty and they basically laughed in my face. Perhaps your dealer would be more willing to replace it...

If it were me, and the dealer would't fix it, I'd try removing the camera from the bumper, and then gently wet sand it down with, I don't know, 1000 grit sandpaper, then work your way up to 2000 grit, then some polishing compound either by hand or maybe even a dremel at low speeds (though it could be too risky). That might remove the sandblasting. But, I'm not really sure what the protective lens is made of, so this method may be too aggressive.

I have no idea if it can be polished when that bad but may be worth a try.

For the future though, put clear film over it. A fellow here stamped some out of a sheet and you just press it on.
