  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hello,

I was just about to drive for a quick trip, I was just leaving the neighborhood driving slowly, suddenly I hear a house noise like something was stuck under the car body and is scratching the road, I stopped immediately and checked under the car and every where and didn't see anything unusual.

I started the car again and I'm hearing the same noise as soon as I start driving, it's coming from under the driver's side, the wheels and tires look ok, pressure is ok. I drove slowly back to my house, the car drives and brakes fine, no noticable difference.

The noise only comes when the car is moving, stops when I'm braking, and stops if I'm driving very slowly.

I am not going to drive it again until I get it looked at.

Do you guys have any idea what this is?

Something with the brakes. Take the wheel off and have a look. Likely just some pebble or something caught in the disc.

I had this once with a pebble or stone caught between the thin metal shield over the disc. Squealed like a pig, she did. Another time a twig was wedged in the under car shield at the right front and rubbed on the wheel as it turned.

Thanks guys, I guess it isn't a big issue then. I will take a look at it tomorrow morning, do I need to remove the tire? Is there a way I can remove it without that?

If someone can ride with you or stand as you slowly drive past to confirm location of noise then use the jack to raise the car and remove the wheel. Examine closely. Chock rear wheel to prevent car movement while on jack and do not go under car to peer without additional support to car frame to avoid car dropping on you. Same as changing a tire, in other words.

Thanks for the feedback guys, I tried to find anything inside the tire but didn't see anything, I drove for a bit and the sound went away completely, so I'm guessing it was something stuck there as some of you said. They are doing some road work near my house so it makes sense!
