  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I've read that my car has an SD card slot, and that it's preferable to update the navigation system from an SD card rather than a USB drive. I'm just wondering where I find the fabled SD card slot. A photo would be awesome, although a clear written description would do just as well. Thank you!

Is your car an Ultimate with the 9.2 inch screen? or the 8 inch screen? I can send you a picture of the sd slot in my ultimate.

Also for the 2015 sedan the first time you update the firmware and maps it must be done using a usb drive. After that you can us the sd card.

Hi Andy – thanks for your replies. I've never seen the term "Ultimate" applied to my car, and while I haven't measured, the screen looks like 8 inches to me. So I'm going to say it's not the Ultimate.

Great to know about the USB drive/SD card issue as well. The question I have, in case you know: if I don't want to deal with it, will a Hyundai dealer do these updates for free, or do they charge?

Thanks again!

Check your current firmware and map versions using the maintenance menu and go to the Hyundai website to see if there are newer ones. If a newer version is available download it and install. There are several diy threads here.

I just used to be a big computer head and the older I get the less interested in dealing with such stuff I become, and I'm anticipating difficulties in writing to an SD card from my MacBook Pro and so forth...but my anticipations may be unfounded. I will give it a go, and resort to one Plan B or another if and when necessary. Thanks again, Andy! The welcome, the congratulations, and all the helpful information are greatly appreciated. 🙂

When did that start? I had a 2015 and only ever used the SD card.

...speaking of which, i'm at least the second owner of my car, and the previous owner seems to have been pretty into the car, so they probably have already updated the NAV system at least once...

Found my SD card slot, by the way. It was right in front of my face, of course, although I did kind of gloss over it because the print on it is gray on the black background, unlike the white printing on all the other little buttons and panels in that area.

So now to head to myHyundai and hope I can make some headway despite myHyundai not letting me register my car because it still shows registered to someone else and I haven't gotten my permanent registration document yet, which I guess is why they didn't accept the evidence of ownership I already sent them…

Update (no pun intended ;)) : I have now updated my nav system and not only did it come off without a hitch, I now have CarPlay!

I had heard the rumors that this might happen, but I didn't dare believe them.

(The forum seems to turn the term "CarPlay" into a link to a not-terribly-well-received wireless CarPlay adapter on Amazon; that's not my doing and I don't advocate the use of the device thus linked to; I just can't see a way to make "CarPlay" not be a bogus link. 🤔 )

Thank you, Andy, for the encouragement. All the adapters I have to use to do things like write to SD cards from my computer (which has only USB-C ports) and their various intermittent incompatibilities can make me apprehensive of such undertakings, but this one went effortlessly, and with a better result than I dared hope for. Yow.
