  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Haven't done an update on my 2019 G70 in quite a while, and don't remember some stuff about the installation of the update. I have successfully downloaded the update onto a SD card. I know which buttons to press to start the actual installation, but I'm not sure whether or not the car should be ON or OFF, or if I can start the installation with the car ON and then turn it OFF? Obviously, need some guidance here. Thanks.

The engine needs to be running. If you don't want it to sit and idle for an hour, then drive it around. You won't have the radio or the cameras, but everything else will work.
While it is possible that your battery could handle the update without the engine running, there is a danger that timeouts could occur that would switch off the system in the middle of the update. If that happened, the unit could be bricked.

So, as I see it, the only reason that the engine should be running during the installation is that we can't trust the system or the battery to keep functioning until the installation is complete. And, just to be sure, once the installation has started with the engine ON, the engine must be kept on until completion...thee can be no turning ON and OFF, or OFF and ON?
