Seat belt warning

Let me preface this by saying I'm a proponent for wearing seat belts. I wear mine 90% of the time.

With that being said, does anyone know how to disable the seat belt warning chime that dings when you don't have your seat belt on? Or at least point me in the direction of how to figure out how to disable it? I looked in the owners manual download that is available in one of the pinned threads up top but wasn't able to find anything regarding it.

In previous vehicles of mine it would say how to disable that noise in the owners manual. It was usually some sort of weird steps you had to do like, sit in car with seat belt on, turn on car, roll down window, take seat belt off, turn radio on then off, etc...

I've got no clue how to disable it. I think the point is for it to be annoying.

Why not wear it 100% of the time?

I'm from a small town originally. Like 1,000 people small with no stop lights. When I'm there, I don't need to wear the seat belt. It's more of a nuisance than anything. You never really get over 20 mph when you're going from place to place there. If I go on any sort of highway or interstate I wear it.

I don't really see how the size of the town or number of people is relevant. Even a collision at 30mph could be devastating to your body without wearing a seatbelt. Additionally, what if someone is driving through town and because there aren't any traffic lights they are coming through at a high rate of speed and collide with you?

I think most people would agree that anytime you are in the car, and the car is in motion you should be wearing your seatbelt. Not only does it make you safer, but it is the law.

But what happens when some when some out-of-towner speeds through your small town or a truck loses control? Your speed will be irrelevant!

Putting on the seat belt is EASY and pretty much automatic for me (I don't even think about it).

In any event, I don't see Hyundai providing a way to defeat the warning as it would open them up for potential liability (from the folks who won't wear their seat belts and will then sue it they get hurt because they were not reminded to wear their seat belt- sadly, we now live in a world where no one wants to be accountable for their own decisions and there are many lawyers that are more than eager to suck the system dry!).

To answer your question .....as far as I know, there isn't any "hidden steps" to do that in Genesis G1/G2, well....maybe there is, but no person in this forum is aware of it.

I don't care if you wear set belts or not, it's not my problem.

There are several on eBay however you need to find the one that fits the Genesis. Personally I never wore a seatbelt, it became law here many years ago. After numerous tickets (yes they check all the time) it is finally second nature but I do admit the tone is what normally gets me started.

Part of the issue is the power of the airbags is likely adjusted based on whether or not the seat belt is being worn. I did disconnect the seat belt chime on my SUV (it could be easily turned off). I did it because I find backing my trailer with the seatbelt on difficult and the chime annoying. So, I wear it except in the low speed backing situation and don't need a reminder.

I didn't care about seatbelts at all until I had an accident on the track a few years ago.

Suffice it to say that now the inconvenience of buckling up is much easier to stand than what could potentially be a life changing decision to not wear it because.... as I used to think "what are the odds of something happening"....

I am relatively young at 30, there is just too much that is out of my control to not use a simple safety device that is proven to save your life.

It is a (relatively) free country, so do as you please, but you might want to look into the cost of Windshield replacement for a Gen2 Genesis before you start leaving that seatbelt unbuckled. Not to mention the cost of dent removal on the hood/fenders In Canada they use the term "Ejected from the vehicle" when referring to vehicle collisions where the occupant(s) were not wearing seatbelts. My doctor friends just call them Organ Donors.....

You may be safest or luckiest driver in the world, but you cannot predict what other drivers might do to cause a collision. Statistically most people get into accidents less than 5 miles from home (52% according to a Progressive Insurance report & 77% less than 15 miles from home). Forget the warning defeat, wear the seatbelt .

Yes, I did note that you said up front that you were a proponent of seat belt use. The eyesight hasn't got that bad.... yet
No "soapbox" lecture intended, but we care because if a bit of tongue-in-cheek narrative causes you and others to pause and consider, then maybe somebody will be spared serious injury or death, not to mention the depletion of the world's Genesis Windshield supply

Sure make it about age, when it is more about life experience and common sense. I did a lot of dumb things when I was younger too - in fact, I'm lucky to be alive due to some bad decisions. You do realize that you can just ignore the advise instead of complaining about it?

That said, some of us care as we know the the same people that can't be bothered with wearing a seatbelt will turn around and sue us if they get injured in an accident - even if they cause it... Or their families will sue if they get killed. To me, if it can be shown that someone was not wearing a seatbelt, then they should be out of luck, and lose the right to any compensation for injury...

As you've seen, there are ways to defeat the chime - just not from Hyundai as we indicated.
