  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Seat belt warning

I get the feeling your definition of "a proponent for wearing seatbelts" and mine are vastly different.

hahaha. exactly. I would think that a proponent for seatbelt use would say that it should be worn 100% of the time.

Logically speaking, how the OP arrives at not needing to wear a seatbelt because an accident has never occurred in their hometown previously is fallacious. So should we only wear our seatbelts on roads that there has previously been an accident on?

meh, who cares? It's funny how people pick and choose the laws which they feel are the most important. I'm sure no one here regularly speeds, always uses their blinker and NEVER texts or calls people while driving. :)

It's odd how car forums (not just this one) go nuts when people ask about that chime. It's not like he asked about skinning kittens.

It's much less about the legality and much more about common sense.

Actually, I do always use my blinkers - is it really that hard?

I do speed, but only with the flow of traffic or on a stretch of road that I have to myself.

I absolutely NEVER text while driving. I'll pull over if I have the need - or better yet use Siri Eyes Free TJ read/send texts if necessary. People texting and driving are the biggest a-holes on the road these days. I can only hope they do us all a favor and drive themselves into a wall before they injure or kill any of the poor drivers around them!

I am so used to wearing seatbelts that I put them on to pull the car out of the garage. I feel totally out of sorts if I try to drive without them.

agree 100% on this, people that text are the worst.

Common sense for you doesn't always match the common sense for others. Luckily most people are not as outspoken about your lack of common sense in other areas. :D

Breaking the law is breaking the law. My statement about picking and choosing what laws you deem important still stands. It's a choice we all make.

I do find this all funny, as I do wear my own seat belt all the time. I just don't get people denigrating people who choose not to. It's their choice to break that specific law, just like it's your choice to "speed, but only with the flow of traffic or on a stretch of road that I have to myself".

such as?

Alarm sounds when driver is not fastened. Passenger side is only the warning light flashing

Thanks, I won't worry about, just be more aware of the flashing light! No problem.

BTW with the fake seat belt ebay items you'll lose the seat belt pre-tensioner feature when you enter the car. It'll still work when you're going sideways though

There has literally not been a car accident in my town that I've ever heard of. I get the feeling your definition of a "small town" and mine are vastly different.

Completely agree there is a gadgetry way to bypass the built in life saving seat belt features in the Genesis. Also agree it is a choice to wear the seat belt or not wear it. The "small town" justification works for whomever wants it to work. Small town or large, the driver is driving w/o a seat belt which is unquestionably dangerous and illegal. Personal choice of a few. Yes, the original question regarding ridding oneself of the terrible annoying safety bell has been answered. Thank goodness.

People who do not take their own safety seriously also don't give a rip about the safety of others with whom they share the road. This is a very true reality and stigma I gained from a couple decades on motorcycles - and took to kicking people from group rides who didn't wear proper safety equipment. I apply the same approach to cars - and see it demonstrated endlessly and daily on Chicagoland roads by unbelted texters who simply cannot be bothered with the ridiculous task of driving.

I have no mercy for such dipshidiots. $.07

agree 100%. I don't buy the whole "the only person me not wearing my seatbelt can hurt is me so let me do what I want" argument. Tell that to your family or friends when you get ejected from the car and they have to identify your body. There is also the potential that your body could fly out of the car and hit another car, or a motorcyclist, or a pedestrian and injure them.

The bottom line is that it makes zero sense to not wear it, no matter your geographic location.

Hey guys. Checking back in.

Just wanted to let you know I drove my car from one spot to another. I moved it probably 50 feet. There were other vehicles in the vicinity. I confess that I didn't put my seat belt on.

Thoughts?

if you only needed to move 50 feet why didn't you walk?
