  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

First, what is the difference in the leather between the base model and the upgraded leather. The brochure says LEATHER SEATING SURFACES for the base. The upgrade says ULTRA PREMIUM LEATHER SEATS. Sounds nice, but what does that really mean?

Second, what parts of the seats are actually leather? I've asked this about other cars I've owned, and the dealers were always at a loss. I would think it should make a difference in how you care for the different areas on the seat if they are made of different materials. For instance, if the center panel where your butt and back touch the seat are leather, but the bolsters are some sort of leatherette look alike, you wouldn't use a leather conditioner on the bolsters.

Thanks,

The upgrade leather seating surface is actually softer and don't actually know but I would bet the rest is still vinyl.

The part you sit on (bottom and back) are leather. The sides and back are vinyl. The leather in the upper trim models is softer and is supposed to be better quality. In addition, the seat adjustments are different, so the seat comfort can be different.

I think it is semi-aniline leather in the Ultimate Package. Lexus uses the same leather in higher trim packages. I must admit, I miss the leather in SAAB and Volvo cars. The Swedes have seats down pat.

When I bought my car it listed the leather as premium Nappa grade leather which is aniline leather. Way smoother than the base leather that my Sonata had.
