Seat warmer

Hello,
I have a base 2016 Genesis 3.8 sedan.
Today, I used my drivers seat warmer as I have many times before.
This time, after pressing the seat warmer button, two of the three lights illuminate and one is blinking.
Once it starts to blink pressing the button additional times has no effect.
The only way to stop the light from blinking is to shut the car off.

I tried this many times thinking it would reset itself to no avail.
The passenger seat warmer works as designed.

What do you guys think?

Heated seats only.
I've been doing some reading and it points to either a shorted or open seat heating element.
The repair is to change the heating element, where the seat cushion is removed and heating element replaced.
The problem with this is the leather seating surface if often times reinstalled loosely or very baggy.

I'd have the dealer do the repair, especially if in warranty. I'd guess that a tech does not take seats apart often so I'd spend a few bucks and have an upholstery guy that does that sort of work every day fix it up.

Not exactly. You mentioned that often the seat is reinstalled loose or baggy. After the dealer is done with it, if you are not happy with the seat ask an auto upholstery shop to look at it. Maybe 10 or 20 bucks to have them fit it right.

There are some things that dealers do not see often, like seats. Just as some will have a windshield guy come in to do the glass.

I have a 2015 and had the same thing happen to me, and I live in the 2nd coldest capital in the world, at the 3 month mark out of Standard warranty and at @ 60K Miles (92k KM).

Dealer initially told me that it would be a US$1800 repair ($2400Cdn), and that DESPITE my extended warranty because the Heating element is embedded in the seat cushion, and THAT was not covered under any warranty. Email relationship with President of Genesis Canada resolved the issue, but that was the final resolution. New seat cushion is a slightly different texture and shade, but probably not noticeable to most. Stick to your guns and escalate as need be to get it done under warranty.

if the leather is loose on the seat it is somewhat easy to fix.

use a steam gun and move it back and forth over the seat at a even speed for 5-10 minutes.

don't let the gun settle in on place as it could damage the leather, keep it moving back and forth, about 1-2 inches from the leather very soft.

heating the leather will soften it and as it cools it will tighten..

I've re-upholstered a dozen seats in cars/hot rods I have built over the years, this is the way I have always done it to get the leather tight and get the wrinkles out..


you can also use a hair dryer or heat gun, but that takes some skill.

I was contemplating buying the heating element from a Hyundai OEM parts site and doing the job myself, even though the car is still under warranty.
You see, I don't much confidence in dealership personnel.
I do all maintenance work myself, so I know its done right.
I figured I'd give them the opportunity to prove me wrong.
I'll take some photos before the work is done. and use it as ammunition if they mess up.

My car was at the dealership today and was later told that after diagnosing the issue, it's the seat heating element as I suspected.
They tell me they routinely replace this element and that the part was ordered.
I'm in a loaner now, (Elantra) and will update on the finished product with fingers crossed.
Will see how well they reattach the leather to the foam padding.

If it wasn't under warranty, I'd just order the element & see if an upholstery shop would put it together.

I dropped off my car on Thursday expecting them to have the car for few days.
To my surprise, I received a call late Friday morning telling me my car was ready.
They told me that had the part over-nighted and the repair was done early on Friday morning.
They did a terrific job, and was thankful I didn't have to fight.
A happy customer for a change.

Hey buddy, i would like to knoe more about this incident. As i am in the same boat as you were. I have called the hyundai customer service and i was told is not covered in warranty. I am under 70k kms and model 2016. Please help me out.
