  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

The day I drove my Genesis home, it only had 5 miles on it and the seatbelt warning light/chime came after only a couple of miles down the road, and then again every minute or so followed by 4 chimes. Did this the entire drive. Odd thing was it would not come on until the car was driven at least 4-5 miles. Dealer replaced the seatbelt locking mechanism and it works fine now! :D Wondering if anyone else had this same experience?

Brand-new car, new Genesis 4.6, I've had it about a week or two, and I'm getting the same seatbelt alarm malfunction. It waits about a few miles just like the posting above and then it starts going like crazy and it won't stop. I have had to pull over, turn the car off, get out of the car, get back in restart the car and then go just a few miles more before the chiming starts all over again. Driving me nuts.

If I even sit in the car and restarted without getting out and doing the whole thing over again, then the alarm doesn't really go off. The odd thing is that the alarm goes off initially and the seatbelt locking mechanism recognizes my seat belt, when we get started. It's sad that I have to bring the car in so soon while I'm still showing it off.

If you seatbelt is not fastened the chime will go off once you hit a certain speed. Maybe 10mph? I believe it will reset every time you stop the car as well.

So in city driving it goes off all the time because there are many stop signs. Once I take off from the stop sign the "ding" comes back on. This is while I'm not wearing my seatbelt.

Same thing happened to me on the way home after taking delivery. They replaced the receiving end of the drivers seat belt. Fine ever since...that was in July 09.

Exact same issue I had. Dealer replaced the seatbelt locking mechanism and it works fine ever since!:D

To revive an old thread. I got my car 3 weeks ago CPO. The seat belt warning light in the dash started randomly going off a few days ago while driving and every trip since.

Rather than brining it to the dealer, I figured I'd check the wiring harnesses first (I'm an Electrical Engineer;)). Sure enough, the 2 wire harness to the seat belt was a bit loose at the connector. I squeezed it together and pushed all the wires into the connectors to make sure they are fully seated. Also, the harnesses are nicely lashed to the seat frame and the chassis end of the harness was a bit tight, so I tugged some slack into it. I had the Easy Access seat setting turned on so it was probably tugging on it each time the seat moved back. Ended up turning that off anyway since I found it more of a pain that I could barely reach the brake pedal when entering the car to turn it on, lol...and I'm 6' tall.

Knock-on-wood, the light hasn't come back yet. And if it does, I'll probably just short the chassis end of the harness together to keep it OFF:rolleyes:

Last note: to get to the harness, I just pushed the seat all the way forward and as high up as it would go. The seat belt harness is a 2-wire, yellow colored harness on the right side closest to the seat belt receiver. There are 3 harnesses under the seat...a large one in the middle and another smaller one on the left side.

We can't all be electrical engineers but happy it worked for you! Cheers~
