  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Secondary Cat Delete on 3.3T

Hey can you give us an update on this? Do you still feel like it has no drone and you’re digging it?
No drone at all and I LOVE the noise it makes, tempted to get it louder haha. Im gonna try to get a drive by video since the weather is getting better

Any chance to post the drive by or in cabin sound. How does it sound under load? I want to hear the exhaust louder than the fake pumped in sound. You mentioned no drone but can you actually hear the exhaust now? Man I wish the sport models would have come a little louder. I want to get the junbl gt ver but think it may be to loud, and do not want evc anymore. Thinking maybe the secondary cat delete may do the trick but dont want to spend 500-600 dollars and still quiet. Thanks

I’d also love some additional feedback or a video on how this went for you. I went by an exhaust shop yesterday to get a quote to do this and he said it was a “bold” move. He went on and on about not knowing what it would do for back pressure, throwing engine codes, loss of power....yada yada yada. I’m just looking for a little more soul from the exhaust, but he scared me away for taking the plunge.

Back pressure??? Oh man, if those guys are saying crap like that then you're better off avoiding them anyway.

In the simplest terms, yes, backpressure is bad, and less of it theoretically means more power. But OEM exhaust systems (as well as aftermarket ones) are typically designed, tested, and re-designed to maximize ‘scavenging’ and exhaust velocity, which can have just as much if not more affect on power under certain circumstances (ie on turbo’d vehicles - the higher the exhaust velocity, the quicker the turbos spool)
The tech was right in that experimenting can go either way... and while gains at certain RPMs are definitely possible, you could also lose power (especially low end torque.) I’d be more cautious of a tech who promised any actual gains beforehand, given the untested performance aftermarket for these vehicles.
That being said, I whole heartedly support anyone who wants to test new mods in the pursuit of power and style. That’s how a community figures out what works and what doesn’t, one mod at a time 😁

I should clarify.

When I hear *most* people talking about back pressure they usually combine it with the incorrect assumption that you need a certain amount of it.

It's all about scavenging. It's my opinion that, when talking about exhausts, the first thing one should be concerned about is proper scavenging, not back pressure. Hence when I hear people start saying things about back pressure I'm always under the assumption that they're still stuck in that old school of thought.

Anyone know of a bolt on catless midpipe for the 2023 3.3T? I see some options for the Stinger that say 17-21 model years, but I have no idea if the exhaust changed after the refresh. Sorry if this is old news, but I am new here and would sincerely appreciate any assistance.

My goal is to be able to actually hear the exhaust, at least while in sport and sport+. I absolutely don't want any drone, especially in comfort mode. A small power bump would be nice, but I don't really care that much, as long as it sounds a little sportier. I did this mod to my wife's Audi TT-RS, and the result was perfect. Not too loud for her, but makes me smile when in Dynamic. 😁

Thanks, in advance!

Sean

From what I've seen, the stock secondary downpipe seems to be a carryover from the pre-facelifted models. Change seems to only be on the muffler. I would just reach out to the companies selling them.

Aside from the mufflers, this looks identical to my 2021 stock exhaust. I could've missed something though.

The arrow is pointing to the secondaries on my 2021.

just to clarify: secondary cats are only for cold start emissions and have no sensors

cats don’t work like that. Seconadary is just to catch anything the primary misses during cold start, other than that it’s not doing much compared to the primaries. You pollute more by accidentally dropping a piece of trash and the wind gets it before you can pick it back up, it’s all relative. Also what is a ‘surprise inspection’? Serious question, wondering if it’s something I didn’t think of. I have smog checks and inspections required, but only for older cars and the smog check is only OBD2 checked, not anything else
I have recently replaced my secondary cats with catless mid pipes from DC Sports on my '22 3.3t Launch Edition, and I did plenty of research beforehand because obviously I didn't want to mess anything up. And this was the impression I was under aswell, the secondaries do not have any sensors so it won't throw any codes or CEL. Sure enough about a week or so after installation my CEL pops up. I cleared it with a code reader at the shop I worked at and it was fine until it came back on a day or two later. I've tried disconnecting the battery etc. to clear the code but it just keeps popping up and while the CEL is on the car doesn't engage in sport mode or sport+, it allows you to switch to the mode but the car drives the exact same as comfort or eco modes. So I am just looking for anyone with advice or a similar problem, should I go back to stock or can I get a stock tune? Maybe O2 sensor defoulers I've heard might work? Looking for advice please and I am open to suggestions, I really just want this light off my dash and to be able to rip the G70 again!! It's been dissapointing not being able to go into sport mode and do any pulls. PS the mid pipes sound great and were just what I was looking for soundwise, so would prefer to not have to go back to stock and just flush that money down the drain.
