If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Do Genesis owners generally just use the stock security system or do they add an additional security system? How commonly is the Genesis stolen?

I'm trying to figure out if I need more protection for my Genesis in NY.

Rich,

That's actually a great question. I utilized the factory security. I know aftermarket security systems have a ton of options like remote start which can be great for cold weather folks.... My thoughts are the integration of an aftermarket alarm into a digital based system. I'm sure there are options. I just don't know of any with doing some extensive research.

In all honesty I would just take replacement value insurance and let them steal it every couple of years. :D My car was just totalled with what looked like very minor damage and luckily I had replacement value insurance so basically I am getting a brand new car 2 years later. I guess this varies highly in price but the addition to mine was only $47 which is worth more than any security system ever invented. No security system will keep them out if they are professionals and personally I think they are a total waste of money.

It depends on what you're trying to protect. Are you a diamond courier or fur dealer? I figure stealing the Lexicon would be too much hassle, even for pros. And without the 17 speakers it's worth even less.

They can have my umbrella and box of Kleenex.

If you like cool stuff do a remote start alarm combo but choose one that is compatible with "Drone Mobile" Had this installed in my daughters car as a Xmas gift. Works as advertised and remote start from anywhere in the world through your smartphone is a free app. You can also track the vehicle or set up alarm zones such as once armed, if the vehicle exits a 1 mile radius send me an email. The tracking feature does add a monthly cost however. Even cooler is say you lock your key in the car, find any computer/smartphone with web access, log on and unlock the car. Check it out here http://www.dronemobile.com/

This also means you do not need to add another stupid fob to your existing key chain as the smartphone is now your remote. Let's face it, in todays world your phone is always with you isn't it!

The Drone unit was like $350 but I was able to buy the cheapest remote start as features and distance become irrelevant. You do not need FM or 2 way capable remote start units as Drone takes care of those. Set me back $650 for remote start and drone module installed but that is in Canada so maybe about $50 in the states. :D

Beware... I've read of problems with the phone-enabled remote-start systems, in pretty much every brand (Viper and Drone included). I love the IDEA of this technology. The price and real-world results... not so much.

Your daughter may have one of the good ones.

I don't need remote start and I don't see how I could lock my key fob in my car since I don't need to take my key fob out. ;)

From the responses, it seems like Genesis owners feel the stock security system is sufficient. For the time being, I'll go with that. Thanks for the responses.

What kind of problems have you read about? (I'm trying to find some issues through Google). I'm considering getting one installed soon. (Compustar + Drone Mobile).

Read some of those reviews. I looked into both these brands about a year ago, and kept getting the same sort of reviews. Maybe they've improved in a year?

The Drone unit I have installed has been flawless and works as advertised. They do get updates once in a while just like any app from the app store. They may have corrected the issues because like I said, works as advertised.

My dealer is now offering Viper branded remote starts, which I thought was interesting considering the complexity of these cars' electronics. I'll get the Viper model number when I visit the dealer and do snow-to-AS tire swap. My previous experience with Viper has been flawless, and I know they now have smartphone integration.
