In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Situation Saturday I guess lol. Here is mine open to opinion n criticisms. I own a 2006 infiniti qx56 with 108300 miles on it. One of the finest luxury suvs out there. Now thing is its killing me on gas it gets 13 mpg city grandma driving it and 18 highway also driving as if I got loads of open glass in the car lol. My wife and I love the roomy interior looks of the car but its honestly killing the wallet. I put 250 $ if not more of gas a month. And thats being nice lol so I been car shopping and found a 2009 4.6 hyundai genesis. Price is well well below nada or kbb value but its because it has 112k miles on it. It is the premium genesis so it has the navigation with 17 speakers very well taken care of. One owner all the goodies but im nervous since ive never seen a hyundai be a reliable vehicle. I have done lots of reading and it seems as if hyundai stepped up its game when it hit the streets with the genesis in 08. Whats your guys opinions.

A few members 15+ have read the post but no reply? Come one guys help me make a decision here. I have been looking At this genesis for almost two weeks and I wanna make a decision this week as in Monday or Thursday the latest.

You should be happy customer with the 2009. The V8 from what you can find around here is bomb proof. Some complaints about the ride and electronics. I am happy. You will not find a better engineered car for the money based on your price.

Check the brake pads. They typical reported go over 100k so yours might be thin.

You should change tranny fluid.

If the electronics stay alive, should be a 200k+ reliable car for you.

Aside from my mishap, my car is a fantastic vehicle. I love it and it gets similar fuel economy to my wife's '12 Rogue.

Bomb proof it is not, mine threw a rod at 72,531 on the ODO. Root cause was unknown. car never overheated, it happened after 3 minutes of running and 35 seconds of light driving with speeds under 35mph. I think it was a faulty head gasket because there was most definitely coolant in the oil.

The 2009 4.6 V8 and early 2012 5.0 V8 are definitely not bomb proof based on posts on this forum.

Personally I don't buy used cars because I can't stand the aggravation of worrying about whether I bought it with problems (like the one I bought when I was a college student). I would also feel bad about recommending any used car to someone else for the same reason.

Man I would love a brand new genesis but wayyyy over my limit. I can't afford anything over 22k payments get over my budget.

How many years will it take you to make up the cost of the Genesis with the cost savings on gas? You may save about 70.00 per 1000 miles. 7, 8, 10 years?

I am not suggesting you buy a new Genesis if you can't afford it. I am just saying I am not going to give my stamp of approval on any used car, because I would worry about what would happen if I gave you bad advice.

Exactly. I read threads like this all the time on other forums. Consider the money you'll lose trading in the QX + a new round of car payments.

It's called penny wise and pound foolish.

And change the plugs.....

The 4.6 is bomb proof. Except for those few who have problems and seek out this forum. There is a trend for the early 5.0s to burn way too much oil. That does not affect you.

Well let's say i have only had the QX for exactly a year. It cost me 21500 I owe 20400 since I lost my job and am backed up about three months on payments I was backed up even more. Unfortunately clean trade in is only at 15k an I owe 20k so the genesis i bargained down to 12500 and i will owe 5 making it 17500 my payments right now as of now on my qx are 407 monthly if I could save about $50-100 on monthly payments and on top of that gas I wouldn't mind. It wouldn't be a new set of payments due to me only having made about 4 payments on the qx. I was financially fu## over really bad. I am getting back to my feet and want a reliable affordable car. Why I seeked the genesis.

IMO you need to get something way more economical until you get your finances squared away. Forgo the the luxuries until you can truly afford them.

Welcome to the forum geo23... My recommendation would be not to buy any car with that many miles on it. Your asking for someone else's problems. Good luck in whichever direction you take...

BIG second.

It may seem like an eternity but it is well worth the wait. I waited nearly 6 years since selling my first Z and getting another. Sure it sucks to drive an econobox when you used to have a luxurious or fast car. But I saved thousands in fuel and maintenance each year! THOUSANDS.

In that time I was able to do much more with the money I saved than I could have imagined several years ago.

+1

Probably a moot point anyways, since it is unlikely that anyone will take the QX on trade when you owe $20k and it is only worth $15k, and you are already 3 months behind on payments.

Not to be rude, but you really outta be looking for the cheapest most basic transportation available until you can get your finances in order..

First, sorry about the job loss.

If you've only had the QX for one year, you must have bought it with very high mileage, unless you drive a massive amount. To me, it doesn't make sense to trade one high mileage car for another with equally high mileage that may provide better fuel economy but could also need expensive repairs in the near future, even if it's been well-maintained. At this point, I think you should look for the least expensive car that will get you where you need to go reliably and safely. Best of luck with your decision.

if i were in the same situation as the OP, i would do one of these:

1. buy a used honda accord or toyota camry with less than 50k miles

2. lease a new honda accord for about $300/month

Totally agree with the above posts - IMO he's looking at the wrong type of car.

After reviewing all of OP post I suggest getting rid of the QX and buy 5000.00 kia or Hyundai with 4cyl. engine. Drive it until you are in much better financial shape with at least savings in the bank that equal three months of pay. Then do not spend the savings on a car.

Well thats another point I didnt mention. Honestly if I told my story its too long. I really truly appreciate your guys opinion. I been back to work and actually have a nice back up plan with me when I got tax return I saved up and didnt touch it. My return was a little under 10k. I am honestly back up and running to normal. Yes I am still young and you can never be 100% with jobs. We moved over to a duplex I own amd rent went down about 300 buck. If I could save just about 200 to 300 in gas also I would be set. I have gone over my finances with my wife. We want a reliable car an a little more economical in gas. Not a car that I am afraid to drive on trips because of gas lol. I own a lexus gs400 also a v8 and I honestly am aware of cost repairs being expensive. All my young life I have owned a 3.5 acura rl three lexus a gs 300 a 400 and a es300. Also a Honda accord 01 so yea it might not have been an audi mercedes or bmw but I am farely aware of cost repairs. Expensive cars have fortunately/unfortunately been in my life starting with my grandparents and parents lol. I just want a car that yes having higher miles won't be breaking on me constantly. Toyota honda are very reliable cars but I want to try the Genesis.
