  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hi,
Time to let her go. Was great to have her, 0 problems. 8000 miles, base model no premium or tech pkg tho. She's pristine but how much can I really get private party?

Just bought mine, 2012 ,3.8, standard package, 27,000 miles, CPO from the dealer, for just under $23,000. If you are a southern location you can probably get at least $25,000, would be my guess. Check out "car soup" for current values and of course go to the NADA site to see what they list it for.

Take it to local CarMax and get a quote. For a private sale you might be able to get $1,000-$2,000 more than that.

I would estimate about $24.5k, but you really need to sell the non-rental aspect. Former rental cars lose about 1k-2k in market value.

Chicken Wing, is yours a former rental? Most of the rentals are base models with 20-30k miles and most are purchased at auction by franchise dealers that put the cpo warranty on them. They can be great cars for a good value as long as you know what you are getting.

Depends on what state you live in. In Georgia it will be less for a private sale due to new title tax laws which favor dealers. Maybe 23,000.00 and will take longer to sell in Georgia.

Is that only for a trade-in, or also if a dealer just buys your car for cash? My suspicion is that if dealer knows that a private sale will yield you less, they will offer you less for the dealer trade/sale.

HoS....

Here in Atlanta the market is strong for these cars. Jim Ellis and the other franchised dealers hold the prices pretty high. That's why when I bought mine in May, I had to go all the way to St. Louis to get a good deal...saved about $4k over what JE would have sold my car for used.

You are right, every market is different, so OP should target those areas where pricing is best, although everything these days everything is just a click away.

Georgia Title tax is paid by the buyer at time the car is titled on the value of the car as determined by the State of Georgia less any trade in amount. However, if you sell your car privately then take that money to purchase another car, you pay the 6.5% tax on the full value of the car you purchase. The buyer of your car will pay 6.5% tax on the full value of the car they purchased from you even if you sell it to them for $1.00(one dollar).

Yes "the bells" , mine was a rental car, knew exactly what I was getting, I actually preferred the base model based on what I researched about the upgrade electronics/sound systems and navigation. I hope my assumptions are correct as to what type of renter used the car prior to me buying it. I am hoping that there of person was more responsible since they were renting a luxury car and paying more for the vehicle to rent, but who knows for sure.
I like the CPO, and feel very comfortable that I bought it through a hyundai dealer.

The dealer did the brake fluid flush recall along with an alignment and a few other things that are required when certifying pre-owned. Also got the extra key fob which isn't always thrown in when you buy at an auction. I have a dealer friend and at auction on 7/30/13, a 2012 with 36M (base model) went for $19,400 , and I was told that the dealership has various fees to pay, along with transporting it, which can add $500 -$700 to their cost. He told me that getting it through the hyundai dealer was really good because of the CPO program. His company would have just detailed it and put it on the lot, so I am glad I used the dealer. I figure they made about $2000 profit from me on my purchase , and I am ok with that , it means that they probably made about 10% markup which I think is fair based on their overhead.

Here are the auction results for July on 2012 sedans with 5-12k miles. With the exception of the $26k car, these are all base models and likely all rentals, but no way to be sure on that. Remember, these are wholesale numbers.

[don't read anything into the "above" or "avg" ratings, that is purely based on price and doesn't consider mileage and the "lease/factory" means little because of inconsistency.]

07/24/13 DALLAS Factory $23,000 5,172 Above WHITE 6G A Yes
07/09/13 ORLANDO Lease $22,100 7,323 Above SILVER 6G A Yes

ChickenWing, here are the results around your mileage - 26-30k. If you bought very recently, yours might be in here. Cost on the CPO is about $500 and auction fees would be about $400 plus transportation. On top of this, you might have add'l costs including: detail, tires, service, floormats, fobs, etc.

There you go geetee , lots of accurate data, and my first response based on recent research I conducted for my purchase last week was confirmed by "the bells". I hope this info helps you, all markets are different, since you did not list your location, it is hard to know what you will get. I think if you are in the southern states and snow isn't a concern, then you are probably able to get a higher price then up here in the northern tundra.

Great auction info bells, that really helps, and your add on estimates for CPO, extra fob, fees, etc appear to be spot on.

The OP posted that he sold his car already.

guys thanks for all the info. my ride is sold. she treated me real good, i've never gotten so many honks & "wow what is that car" comments before. never had any problems either.

i'm also pleased with resale value of these cars. i might consider purchasing one again depending on how the next one looks like.

peace

I was wondering what the outcome of this was, do you mind letting us know what you sold your car for ? Just a little curious.
