If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

This may have been mentioned before, but what is with Hyundai regarding service manuals? I am incensed about the HMAservice.com manuals going to a paid service. First: I used the Hyundai on line service before it was pay-per-view and lets face it...it stank. I complained to Hyundai, (useless BTW) and for my efforts they RAISED the price for a yearly subscription. For those who haven't been to the site yet you get weekly access for $20, monthly for $60, and yearly for $300! I haven 't been on lately but has the quality improved? I wouldn't PAY $20 for a yearly subscription if it hasn't! If you have a subscription look up changing the cabin air filter if you want to see the very definition of vague. The Genesis is an excellent car, it deserves a decent technical repair manual.

Carping over, now for my question, Has any of our DIY group found a GOOD service manual? I know there are on-line companies who have done good ones for a reasonable price. Anybody tried one? Was it better than the Haynes or Chlymers crap? Has anybody downloaded the factory manuals? (It's probably better than nothing.)
I am a former race car and engine builder and currently work as a mechanical engineer, so I'm not worried about working on my car. I would like to not go in blind though. Has this been covered before? Thanks for any suggestions.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
User OneFunGenesis downloaded the manual for a 2009 before it was a paid service. You can download it from here and I've asked for it to be made a sticky.

How To DL Genesis Sedan FSM

This is what I use and have found it very helpful.

I have downloaded these a few months back when I had access for my 2012 3.8 Genesis when I was going through problems with
my drivers seat with the dealer so I just put them on my google drive and hopefully they will last and not get blocked :D.
I have all the years shop manuals with the exception of the 2012 3.8 it also includes the DTM and ETC manuals as well.

Thanks xiaphin,
I'm sure that will help some things. My car is a 2013 and the Hyundai 8 speed came on the scene in 2012 so I would really like to find something 2012 or later. The 2009 manual will be a help though no question.
Thanks,
Bill

KeeWay,

I see that these are pdf files. When I pick my particular year: 2016 3.8, Should I be able to just click on a mechanical system and it open up? If so, then I believe that the link does not work.
Is there a fee for these manuals?

KeeWay,
Thanks! works fine. Sadly Hyundai hasn't improved the quality of the manuals. To see what I'm talking about go into the heating and ventilation section and find the section for the cabin air filter, 1 poor picture, and 1 line of description. Those tabs are hard to get out, and you risk breaking them. At least the first time. I do really appreciate your downloads of the manuals. Since Hyundai is only doing on-line versions they should allow you to download 1 version 1 time for your car.
Again KeeWay thanks for the download!

My understanding is that dealers complained about free access to the online shop manuals because that allows independent shops to more easily compete with them.

This I can totally see being the main reason for switching to a paid service.

Sent a message to OneFunGenesis about creating a sticky for the FSM's and having them hosted at a reliable location. He is looking into getting this created for the community. If you have compiled any of this information send him a message.

Mark, I might believe that except that the manuals are rather crappy. I worked for Kawasaki motorcycle division in the seventies and eighties. They started a technical writing office in LA. That way they avoided the translation problem caused by 2nd language trouble. Those manuals were awesome and were for machines costing a great deal less than a Genesis! Hyundai needs to get a clue. Good maintenance is MUCH easier with good manuals and sadly the Hyundai manuals are the opposite of good. Thanks for all the forum posters help!

Group,
I have purchased factory service manuals for every vehicle I have bought. Sometimes they are done by the manufacturer, other times by an independent technical writing firm (Mopar) Those were high quality. My protest is that you can't simply buy the manuals. 1 time purchase. The idea to make them subscription type services is bullbleep. A year and a day after I pay $300 I can no longer look up in my manual without paying more money is totally unacceptable.

I am not questioning your assessment of the online manuals. But are you saying that Hyundai dealers have a better set of manuals to work with?

Mark, I really hope so. The problem is when a tech goes to work on your car for the first time. It is like the old doctor joke about "practicing medicine!" This isn't a knock on the techs either, the best ones are always learning. Some manufacturers have new model orientations where they at lease go over the high points of a new model. The trouble is those are usually optional and cost money to attend. A small dealership might not have the money to ship it techs to the orientation. Every one of these things is a reason to have better manuals. Also if Hyundai is CHARGING MONEY FOR THE MANUAL, they should have the means to produce a better one

I don't really know for sure, but I doubt that dealer techs have access to better manuals. One exception is that for most TSB's, there are detailed instructions and pics on how to implement the TSB.
