  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hi Folks,

I've got a 3 month old 2013 Genesis R-Spec.

I can NOT set NAV destination by "COORDINATES". I am trying to set these coords as my destination: 26°08'47.51" N, 80°37'14.18" W.

The 1st part (26°) works fine, but I CAN"T input 08'. The display only shows a single digit, but it seems like I must input 2 digits to get to the next field. The last field (__") inputs ok , but it seems like more input is needed but none is accepted.

Am I doing something wrong or is there a flaw in the "COORDINATE" input??

Thanks.

From my experience with various GPS units, there are two different methods of recording coordinates of a location. Don't ask me what they are, I sure don't remember. GARMIN asks you which method you want to use.

Is it possible the Genny uses the other method that you are using?

I'd like to know the answer to this one too, good luck with a solution!!!

The Genesis is prompting for input in D°M'S" (degrees, minutes, seconds) format as you can see in the second of the two pics attached.

From the example in my original post (26°08'47.51"), I input "26" for the Degrees part and press the control wheel to enter and it accepts it and moves to "Minutes" (') for input. I input "08" for the Minutes part and it accepts it, but only displays "8" and moves on to "Seconds" (") for input. I round up the final group and input "48" as the Seconds and press the wheel to enter it.

This is where the NAV system kind of hangs. It accepts the last group and displays what I had input. It then prompts for add'l input, BUT the digits 0, 2, 3 & 4 are unavailable for input (grayed out). At this point, NOTHING I input does anything except the "BACK" button and it wipes out all previous input digits and starts from 0° 0' 0".

I'm stumped, I guess I'll just have to start making phone calls till I get some kind of answer.

If anyone cares, stay tuned. I'll try to update this thread if I get any answers.

Just tried the Destination by Coordinates on my 2013 R-Spec and found that it seems to work fine. After entering the latitude (N) which I used my location of Saint Louis (38.x.x) for DMS it then moved the input cursor to longitude (W). I did notice that 2-4 were grayed out not sure why but my best guess is that those values are not valid longitudes outside of N. America. Once I entered the W coordinates I was able to select DONE and then the map displayed at my entered coordinates.

So you are saying that the W coord. values will not accept one of the non-grayed out values when you try to enter? If that is the case I think you may have a problem with the NAV unit and may want to have it looked at.

D'oh! My bad. It is working OK. I guess I assumed that because I had to input a leading zero for a single digit coord group, that it would 'display' the zero - it does not. I kept thinking that some thing was wrong and didn't notice that the input cursor had moved over to W longitude input.

I discovered this by inputting coordinates for a known location that had all 2 digit coord groups.

Now I can get on with my trek across the Everglades (on I-75) and find these few waypoints I wanted to check.
