The secret to getting your iPhone to pair is - when you are told to place the iPhone on the "reader" - to move the iPhone around in the charging tray, very slowly, until you hit the "secret spot" at which it will pair with the car. This phenomenon is completely undocumented, and caused me to fail maybe a dozen times before a Genesis CSR convinced me to play "hide and seek" with the "secret spot." The spot is much smaller than the area which will allow the "charging" light to illuminate.
