  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Team Genny,

I'm curious as to what you all use as a car air freshener / deodorant. When I purchased my 15' CPO Genny sedan, it was detailed at a local shop that used something to give the car a unique smell. I've had the car for 3 months now and it's still there, albeit feint at this point. Not sure what product they used but I really like the smell of it. Hard to describe, but it definitely had the smell of a masculine luxury car (I'm tempted to call and ask what it was).

That said, what products do you use in your car to keep it smelling fresh. McDonald's and Starbucks does not count BTW :-)

I shower on a regular basis, don't smoke, don't eat in the car. Never saw the need for adding artificial odor.

same thing I have used for 20 odd years.

I get a plastic bar soap box and drill air holes in it, then I take a bar of Irish Spring soap and grate it on a cheese grater and fill the box, then leave it under the seat velcroed to the carpet. when the interior of the car heats up the soap gives of a pleasant odor, typically it will last about 2 years and is a hell of a lot cheaper than the crap air fresheners at the auto parts store.

Agreed! I am the masculine odor in MY car. 🤣

some if us have kids and pets..

my daughter is in diving, swimming and water polo for the summer, while she rinses off at the pool she smells like chorine when she gets into the car,.

and my service dog rides shotgun with me almost everywhere I go.

kids+Dog = stink, doesn't matter if they bath every day..

Almost all of those "air fresheners" are made from petrochemicals that you really don't want to be breathing, especially in a confined space like a car interior.

For example, here is a partial ingredient list for Glade’s Hawaiian Breeze Room Spray:
  • 3-cyclohexylpropionate
  • allyl caproate
  • benzyl alcohol
  • butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT)
  • dipropylene glycol
  • ethyl hydroxypyrone
  • ethyl methylphenylglycidate
  • gamma-nonalactone
  • methyldihydrojasmonate.

and we wonder why mental illness is so prevalent in our society today.

That would explain my irrational behavior lately....hmmm...I'll just tell my wife it's the car's fault!

I have my 2015 F-150 for three years now and still smells like leather (not quite new car smell, but definitely leather)... I have never used any air freshener or anything like that. I try to minimize eating in the car, never smoke etc... I am a daily gym goer and former athlete so sweating at the gym and then driving is a daily occurence for me. All I have done is use Meguiar's Gold Class Rich Leather (this is a leather conditioner that you spray on a microfiber cloth and wipe onto the seats) about once a month (or every six-ish weeks) and wipe EVERY LEATHER SURFACE in the car... takes about 30 minutes for a SuperCrewCab truck so a car should go about 20-25 minutes... plus it keeps the leather supple, gives it that nice "slick" feeling that brand-new leather has instead of feeling sticky like worn in leather tends to feel. And in the summer when you put it on and the car heats up, it gets a very nice smell to it (almost intensifies the leather smell)

I know this doesn't necessarily help the OP because of his kids and dog, but this will certainly help keep the leather in shape and bring some of the leather scent out stronger (and it helps everyone else who doesn;t have sweaty kids and dogs too!!)

California Car Scents! Fruity smells I love

A premium leather cleaner conditioner spray is subtle and works nicely. And seats stay clean.

Currently using Bath and Bodyworks "Stress Relief" scent.

NEW Leather

I love these! Pick them up at Big Lots for cheap! I drop them into the windshield vent every month! Smells great and no one notices them.

This thread reminds me of my teen years when barbers would douse you with products like Lilac Vegetal, Clubman, Old Spice, or English Leather. AWK!
