In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. I just had the roof wrapped in black metallic vinyl. Shop said that in order to take the antenna off the entire headliner needs to come off. They didnt want to mess with it. I wanted the antenna wrapped also but without taking it off they said it wouldnt come out right.

So now I have a black roof with a white antenna uggh. Next plan is to probably have it painted to match but without taking it off the car, im not sure if it can be done.

Anyone have suggestions here or have removed this thing before?

Ideally i would just buy a new antenna from a black genesis but im not sure if they come painted from the factory (assuming i can actually remove it from the car)

edit - after checking hmaservice, it says the roof liner needs to be fully removed to access the bolt that secures the antenna. maybe i can pull it down far enough in the rear to access it. will report back

it appears that the antenna does come painted from the factory (paint codes are attached to the oem part number for the antenna.

here is the one for black pearl. I bet that would match my roof nicely

about 210$ for the antenna. OUCH.

I can only seem to find up to 2012 parts. Since bluelink was added into the 13 model (which is what I have), is the 09-12 antenna compatible with the 13 model year?

That's just a fin. You'd need to see if you're able to stuff the electronics in it.

Looks like there is an LED sticking out the front.

Yeah I already changed my post. I thought it was a cover.

I would consider a can of high quality black automotive spray paint for such a small accent. Even if it's not pearlescent, I doubt it would be noticeable. Hit it with a little 600 grit wet sand, mask it off and spray a few very light covering coats. Done well and done cheap. Pictures when you're done -regardless!

ive actually thought about this. im pretty good with the rattle can and have painted quite a few parts before.

just something about spray paint on this car really turns me off. but, wet sanding like you said to make a good surface, few coats of gloss black followed by some clear and i bet it would be fine.

i pulled the rear portion of the head liner down enough to get a light in there. I can see the antenna connections and the bolt. it may be possible to get my hands in there but i have feeling if that liner comes down too far it might make a huge visible crease. similiar to bending a piece of cardboard

Im going to use plasti dip first. Ive had great success in the past on various car parts so its worth a shot.

Plasti dip also has a pearlizer and a glossifier specifically made to be used over the base color plastidip. Hopefully that pearlizer will give a little bitter of glitter to match the metallic black vinyl

Sounds like a good idea for your application.
